Blind Pilot front man Israel Nebeker remarked mid-way through his band's captiviating Tuesday evening set that the Harlow's crowd was "one of the loudest crowds we've ever played for," which of course was met with raucous approval from the quite sizable (for a Tuesday) masses. Most of Cake's hometown shows here in Sacramento over the past couple of years have been centered around their occasional surprise shows at the relatively tiny Blue Lamp, with announcements for the gigs usually coming the day before or day of - or not at all. The group also features Audley Freed and Nick Govrik (Black Crowes), Steve Gorman (Black Crowes, Stereophonics), and singer Joan Osborne. Yes, that Joan Osborne. This definitely qualifies as a "supergroup," albeit a bit of a random one (with a really cool name).
