The Art of Fashion

The fashion industry continues to grow in Sacramento. Trunk shows, boutique openings, fashion shows, fashion students exhibiting their designs from San Francisco to Sacramento continue to wet the appetite of fashionistas in northern California. Next month will also bring Sacramento Fashion Week to the Elks Tower Ballroom. These events will make an impact in our local economy. This past Friday night "The Art of Fashion" was hosted by Lounge ON20. Sacramento Fashion Week Press Party

Mayahuel Tequila Museo hosted an elegant evening of fashion on Thursday night. Designers scheduled to participate in the Designer Showcase were on hand to celebrate a Sacramento Fashion Week Press Party. This year’s Sacramento Fashion Week will take place the week of February 21. Several events are planned for the event including two Designer Showcases with the final show on February 25. Winter 2012 SacAnime

The Woodlake Hotel, located on 500 Leisure Lane in Sacramento, hosted this weekend’s Winter 2012 SacAnime convention. Formerly known as the Radisson Hotel, the Woodlake Hotel opened its doors to over 5,000 visitors who came to see several of their favorite voice actors and celebrity panels, enjoy Café Hoshi, play games, and attend how-to workshops, music video contests, and live concerts. Sacramento State Student Fashion Association runway show benefits Autism Center for Excellence

The Midnight Masquerade Charity Fashion Show flaunted a cornucopia of fashion designs and styles – from pop art-inspired dresses to “Star Wars” costumes – by Sacramento State students Tuesday at the Sacramento State University Union Ballroom. More than 200 people attended the two-hour charity event, which helped raised funds for the Autism Center for Excellence at Sacramento State or A.C.E., a program by United Cerebral Palsy of Greater Sacramento that provides socialization training programs for children ages 8-12 diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder. Uptown Fashion Night in East Sacramento

What is chic? A long list of customers found out firsthand Thursday night at “Uptown Fashion Night: Celebrating a Piece of East Sac.” The event was hosted by Sandra Gonzalez, owner of Sparkle Bridal Couture; Mary Kawano, owner of Krazy Mary’s Fashion Boutique; and Peggy Orr, owner of The Pink House Shoe Boutique. All three shops opened their doors to customers, offering special sales during the evening. Fil-Am history emerge through Hip Hop and Art

Now is it Filipino with an F or a P? It must be an F because as most Fil-Ams would agree, it’s not Filipino without food and family. In Sacramento, hip hop artists, break dancers, designers, and other creatives came together at Sol Collective on 21st Street and Broadway to celebrate Filipino American History Month. Women in Philanthropy share $en$e-ability

Yellow flowers, silver ribbons, and shopping bags line the white linen covered tables in the Macy's courtyard of the Downtown Plaza Mall in preparation for a 10th Anniversary benefit fashion show for United Way's Women in Philanthropy. More than 230 women attended the luncheon to honor the group that brings women together to foster youths towards adulthood. Honorees walked the runway with great reason to celebrate being that the day marks a milestone. Reaching $1 million in funds for programs, 1,223 towel sets, 75 luggage, 904 holiday gifts, and 34 life skills workshops given to foster youths aging out of the system. UCD grad turns his passion into reality with The Imaginary Zebra

After studying for hours learning the computer language of electrical engineering, coding and programming during his freshman year at UC Davis, Benson Chou traded in his seat in the computer lab of Kemper Hall to turn his passion for art and graphic design into a growing business and clothing brand known as The Imaginary Zebra. Chou has created more than 50 T-shirt designs, and he said he has sold about 2,000 T-shirts since his freshman year when he and a few of his friends personally designed, screen-printed, packaged and shipped hundreds of T-shirts. Ballet, music and art at Midtown's Second Saturday

Summer has come and gone but crowds at Second Saturday still remain large. Second Saturday events have grown in popularity and other communities participate in Second and Third Saturday art events. During fall several cities stop their art walks. Folsom and El Dorado Hills had their last Second Saturday of the year in September and October respectively. Popularity of similar events in smaller towns continues to grow. Attendance and art displays expand in the smaller venues but none of these can compare to the popularity of Midtown’s event. Sac World Fest

The Sac World Fest was celebrated with various modern and classical dances from around the world in Old Sacramento on Sunday, October 2. Continuous dancing, singing and performances were scheduled throughout the day on five stages on Front Street. Several dozen vendors and informational stations were set up, as was a children’s craft area. Performances ran from 10 in the morning to 5 in the afternoon and featured music and performances as diverse as the residents that live in Sacramento. This is the fourth year that Sacramento World Music and Dance Festival has been held and it continues to attract residents and visitors from Northern California. Masquerade gala at the Artisan

An exquisite celebration full of music, ballroom dance, costumes and a masquerade was enjoyed by many at the Artisan this past Saturday evening. The 2nd Annual Autumn Harvest Masquerade Ball also served to benefit Wind Youth Services. Masks and formal attire were required for the event. 18th century costumes were recommended and most guests stayed with the theme. Masks were available for purchase at the door. Inspired by Paris, high fashion and ballroom dancing, guests enjoyed a gala evening. 2011 Diversity Wedding Show

The Citrus Heights Community Center, located at 6300 Fountain Square Drive, was once again the site for the Diversity Wedding and Special Events Show. The event celebrates all wedding traditions and caters to the cultural diversity of Sacramento. The one of a kind wedding event brought dozens of vendors. Event planners for all occasions were available; birthdays, quinceañeras and prom included. Hundreds of visitors came to the event to view the fashion show and get ideas for planning their own wedding. Interview with Eisley at Macy's Arden Fair Mall

Back to school shopping just got better as Macy's Mstyle Lab in the Arden Fair Mall hosts an acoustic concert with the band Eisley on Saturday, September 10, 2011. Eisley is a rock band from Tyler, Texas with four siblings – Stacy, Sherri, Chauntelle, and Weston Dupree. In 1997, Sherri and Chauntelle began playing music together after being inspired by bands like the Beatles, Jeremy Enigk, and Radiohead. SacAnime celebrates seven years of fun

There are people who can live up to King’s words and they make a deep impact in our community.
