River Cats filling seats despite recession

There is no doubt that the Sacramento River Cats have brought an exciting and competitive brand of baseball to this city since they moved to Raley Field from Vancouver, Wash., in 2000. From the moment of arrival, the team performed and continues to perform well, winning four PCL championships and seven PCL southern division titles, as well as the Triple-A championship last season.   Another area in which this team has never struggled is putting fans in the seats. River Cats 'Que and Brew attracts young crowd

Besides being highly competitive year in and year out, the defending-champion Sacramento River Cats have a number of promotional events to keep fans engaged and entertained throughout the season. One of those events is the second year of the Miller Lite 'Que and Brew, every Thursday night home game this season.   Held in the Jackson Rancheria Home Run Terrace near left field, the 'Que and Brew offers $2 Miller and Miller Light beers as well as tri-tip, hot dogs and hamburgers, among other foods. Doors open to the 'Que and Brew at 6 p.m. and close around 8:30 p.m., which is usually around the fifth or sixth inning. The area is sealed off for only those 21 or older in an attempt to draw a

Outdoor film festival out to impress

Beginning Saturday, Cesar Chavez Park will host the first inaugural Sacramento Outdoor Film Festival, produced by Creative Projection Services and its subsidiary, Sacramento Outdoor Movies. Starting at 5 p.m. and running every Saturday in August, the festival will provide food, fun and games for all those attending, with a movie at 9 p.m. to close out the night. This week's featured film is Rebel Without a Cause, the 1950s classic drama starring James Dean and Natalie Wood. Other festivities include various sponsor booths for home theater supplies and computer games, a video game competition, and Sacramento's Hoppy Brewing Co. will host a beer garden with food and drinks for the event.
