Cocktails, appetizers, networking and...ballet?

Sacramento’s young professionals are invited to attend United Way’s unique twist on a networking event. Sacramentans can enjoy drinks and appetizers while learning about the origin of ballet at United Way’s Emerging Leaders Fall Event on Nov. 10. Pamela Hayes Classical Ballet will present a costumed Ballet 101 demonstration at the event as well as a sneak peek at the group’s production of “The Nutcracker.” The event will take place 5:30-7 p.m. at Lounge ON20, 1050 20th Street in Sacramento. Jewish Young Professionals to Celebrate Rosh Hashanah

At sundown tonight, a new year begins. The Jewish New Year of 5771, that is.  This celebratory holiday is known as Rosh Hashanah, which literally means "head of the year" or "first of the year" in Hebrew.   To symbolize one's hopes for a "sweet" new year, it is traditional to eat apples dipped in honey. NextDor, Sacramento's organization of Jewish young professionals, is taking this tradition a step further. On the heels of Mayor Kevin Johnson’s proposed green initiative to establish Sacramento as a leader in the green economy, local young professionals group Metro EDGE is taking action to educate the region’s new generation of leaders about the sustainability practices of local businesses and how they can collectively help make Sacramento a cleaner, greener place.
