The Monster Has Arrived: "Young Frankenstein At Broadway Sacramento

“The Mel Brooks Musical Young Frankenstein” opened at the Community Theater Wednesday evening as part of the Broadway Sacramento Series.  “ Young Frankenstein” is the second movie Mel Brooks has turned into a Broadway musical. The first was “The Producers,” made from an earlier Brooks film (1968). The incredible success of “The Producers” on Broadway influenced Brooks to adapt the far more popular “Young Frankenstein” (1974) for the Broadway stage. Brooks wrote the original screenplay with Gene Wilder, who starred in the film. Next season of Broadway Series announced

Tony Award-winning musical "In the Heights" as well as the recent Disney revival of the classic "Mary Poppins" are among the six touring shows that will come to Sacramento between September 29 and June 19 of next year. For the first time in producing organization California Musical Theatre's 22 year history of bringing Broadway shows, all six of the shows will be Sacramento premieres. Along with "In the Heights" and "Mary Poppins," this season's shows will include the dance spectacle "Burn the Floor," the seasonal "Cirque Dreams Holidaze" and two new shows based on films: "9 to 5," based on the Dolly Parton movie and "Young Frankenstein," based on the Mel Brooks comedy. What's happening at the Capitol: October 21, 22, 23

Wednesday, Oct. 21 1:30 - 3 p.m. Firestar Productions will be filming a California Firefighters Conference video. The crew of about six will be filming near the south steps and south lawn area of the Capitol. 5 - 9 p.m. The California State Library will hold their monthly "Food For Thought" event at the California History Room, room 200 of the Library & Courts Building II at 900 N Street. Held the third Wednesday of each month, the free event features a film, refreshments and discussion. This week's film is Young Frankenstein. About 80 people will attend the screening.
