'From Godspell to Wicked' – Schwartz's works performed by STC

The works of Broadway composer Stephen Schwartz – whose most well-known work is “Wicked” – will be highlighted in a cabaret performance by the Sacramento Theatre Company next week. “From Godspell to Wicked” opens Thursday and is an homage to Schwartz’s works, which have spanned four decades, said Michael Laun, producing director for STC. “We have a little bit of everything,” he said. “ ‘Godspell’ was his first, we have some music from ‘Pippin’ ... and the last 30 minutes of the show is music from ‘Wicked.’ ” Also included in the performance is some of the music Schwartz composed for Disney movies such as “Pocahontas” and “The Hunchback of Notre Dame.” The performance is a cabaret, and

"42nd Street" Ends The 60th Season Of The Music Circus With A Dance Spectacular

America is in the depths of the Great Depression. Audiences flock to movies where they can forget their troubles enjoying a couple of hours of singing and dancing paying a mere dime for a ticket. The musical “42nd Street” is based on the 1933 movie of the same name. Music Circus opens for 60th season

The big top is flying up as the Sacramento Music Circus returns to the Wells Fargo Pavilion for its 60th anniversary season and 500th production. The seven-show 2010 season opens July 9 with Monty Python's "Spamalot" and closes Aug. 29 with "42nd Street." As always, season ticket holders contribute to the show selection by filling out surveys sent by the Music Circus months prior to the season opening. The highest-rated shows are selected assuming Music Circus can obtain rights to the show. This year "Funny Girl" was the second highest-rated show on the survey, which marketing director Christopher Bower described as "surprising." "If there is something we're maybe on the fence about but
