The beauty of fog is that it creates a haze of the things we normally see sharp, clear and with strong colors. No blue sky or the sun's rays beaming upon us. Colors are muted. Our world is more quiet thanks to water droplets in the air. Building tops seem to disappear into the sky. That describes today's blanket of fog over Sacramento:
Right now Sacramento is full of "Kodak moments." This afternoon I stalked Downtown and Midtown for those moments. There was something around every corner. The Grid in Technicolor:

Summer is almost over, but fall in Sacramento offers new things to look forward to. This is the time of year when the leaves change color, the weather cools off and the smells of fall swirl in the air and capture the hearts of the people. The Sacramento Press asked: What are you most excited about for fall in Sacramento this year? Brittany Ryan, a 23-year-old student at Sacramento State from Natomas, said, “I love when the leaves change color and am excited to drink pumpkin spice lattes from the local coffee shops.” Christina Peterson, a 29-year-old stay-at-home mom from Sacramento, said, “We are excited to start the family tradition of going to Apple Hill and the pumpkin patch with our
Summer is just about history but two Farmers Markets aren't. Two new locations that were added to this year's weekly circuit - East End Capitol Park at 15th & L streets and 6th & Capitol Mall - remain open on Thursdays 10am -1:30pm through September 29! I just happened to take a photographic journey through them last Thursday: Along Capitol Mall East end Capitol Park CHECK 'EM OUT THIS THURSDAY!!!
Clouds are not all bad. They make colorful sunsets, as in this view down H Street near Elvas Ave. around 8pm this evening.

My plan of the day included another road trip while the rain and wind were pummeling the area. At 12:16pm I found myself on a levee overlooking the Vic Fazio Yolo Wildlife Area. Interstate 80 is seen in the upper third of the photo above. Everything is submerged. This is the south side of the freeway. The north side is also filled with water.Looking east from the levee I saw more than these two power poles skirted by water. To see how the are looked on Feb. 13, about six weeks ago, CLICK HERE>>>Next I hopped on Old River Rd from West Sac and travelled south on the west side of the Sacramento River. A trailer park along the way had water encroaching upon it. The photo above is the big w
Early this afternoon I hopped in the car and cruised around between East Sac and Downtown watching how folks were handling the newest round of the storm:Some handled it in style with a pretty umbrella.Others tried to outrun the raindrops. This gal handled it with practicality. Many had their arms full of stuff, no cover over their heads or just barely. I saw one man with a plastic shopping bag on his head. This outdoorsman was dressed for spring.Others just plowed through it (J & 41st St.) And I wonder what willl tomorrow bring? Sacramento, CA | Unstable air in the area paints a myraid of cloud formations in Sacramento skies. While we enjoyed a breif break from the rain in Sacramento Monday, incredible clouds could be viewed all over the Sacramento skies. The unstable air that produced these sites was also responsible for a low grade tornado that touched down in near by Colusa county and produced a downpour of pea sized hail in Penryn and Loomis areas as well as thunder storms. Tuesday should yield some more awesome sights in the sky as the next wave of rain moves into the area for another wet week. The National Weather Service has issued this forcast for the remainder of the week: Tuesday: A 20 percent chanc
Sacramento, CA | Club goers leaving a local club escape fallen tree incident with minor injures and damaged vehicles. Late Saturday night, as Azukar Lounge at 16th Street and J Street was winding down and club goers filled the parking lot heading to their cars, a large tree collapsed landing on one occupied, damaging others and pinned a female to the ground. Several bistanders worked together to get the tree off the girl as resue crews responded. The victim was transported to the hospital via paramedics with minor injures. Occupants of the vehicle struck by the tree were unharmed and able to exit the vehicle without further incident. For more weather impact photos and stories, CLICK H
Feel like I still live in Washington state with all this rain. So I did what comes naturally to me and took a trip along the rivers to see what havoc the wind and rain have created. Headed east on Hwy 50 to end up at Folsom Dam. The rain was coming down hard as I drove by it. Water was pouring into the American River from Folsom Lake. Then I shot over to Sunrise Blvd and took the American River Access to get next to the river. A few people were braving the rain. A woman below paused to look at the river as she crossed the foot bridge at 11:04am (below.) Next I headed to River Bend Park, hoping to drive to the river but access was closed. It was pouring and I didn't feel like getting col
Bear with me here, but I love when the weather is all stormy and makes things happen to the surroundings. Like today when I saw how full the Sacramento River is!I took a stroll along the West Sacramento River Walk area near the Ziggurat Building (you know, that pyramid-shaped one across from Old Sac) this afternoon and wasn't able to follow the sidewalk on the lower level. It was flooded and rising. So I enjoyed the view. And we can expect more wet stuff and high winds. Read about it HERE>>>> SacPress Photos | Kati Garner
Another round of storm clouds serve as a backdrop for Central United Methodist church on H St. in East Sac this afternoon. There have been reports of a funnel cloud spotted over Mather Field in Rancho Cordova this afternoon. The National Weather Service earlier issued a severe thunderstorm warning for North Central Sacramento County, including the cities of Rancho Cordova, Folsom, Fair Oaks and Carmichael. According to KCRA, a hard freeze warning is in effect from 3 am to 9 am Sunday.

Yesterday morning, in the fog, I drove to Cosumnes River Preserve, about 30 miles south of where I live in Colonial Heights. I really had no idea what I would see. As I neared the preserve along Bruceville Rd I saw bodies of water and brush. If I hadn't been paying attention, I would've missed a huge gathering of Sandhill Cranes in a foggy field. I was practically the only person there. Here are some photos of what I saw: The link to the preserve is HERE SacPress Photos | Kati Garner

Downtown's Wells Fargo Center along Capitol Mall was shrouded in fog early this morning. The tallest building in the city, it stands at 423 ft. The remainder of the first full week of 2011 should be not so much fog and partly cloudy, according to the forecast. SacPress Photo | Kati Garner
