Registration is now open for the Gold Rush Fun Run in El Dorado County on Saturday, September 22, 2012. The event features a series of races through the Sierra Nevada Foothills along the El Dorado Trail, which was once the historic Southern Pacific Railway line, and now features picturesque scenery and an abundance of wildlife for trail goers. The Gold Rush Fun Run hosts runners and walkers from across Northern California for a 10 mile run, 10K run, 5K run/walk and a 1 mile stroll. Before an announced sellout crowd of 14,014 — the first of this season — the River Cats came up short by a score of 4-2 in a Father’s Day matinee against the Fresno Grizzlies. Grizzlies starting pitcher Dan Runzler allowed two hits in four innings of work, but his four walks led to two runs for Sacramento. The Grizzlies used two relievers on the afternoon, with Josh Banks getting credit for the victory and Dan Otero collecting the save after the River Cats had the winning run at the plate in the ninth inning. Runners, walkers and outdoor enthusiasts will take to the trails on Saturday, October 8, 2011 when local nonprofit InAlliance hosts the 3rd Annual Gold Rush Fun Run & Walk fundraiser on the El Dorado Trail beginning in Placerville. Participants will weave their way through the Sierra Nevada Foothills in 10 mile, 10K, 5K and 1 mile races along what used to be the Michigan California Lumber Company railway corridor. Following the races, guests will enjoy a Finish Line Celebration featuring refreshments, music, vendors, raffle prizes and awards ceremony. Men of all ages and shoe sizes gathered at the corner of 18th Street and Capitol Avenue, ready to walk one mile in women’s high heels to support WEAVE’s first “Walk a Mile in Her Shoes” event. “There are so many men that are affected by sexual assault, and this is a way for men to show their support,” said Amber Stott, WEAVE director of communications relations. Stott estimated that since Friday WEAVE has raised over $63, 000. Stott said all proceeds will go to WEAVE and benefit the various services that WEAVE provides, including counseling, WEAVE safe house, legal assistance, prevention programs and 24-hour support and response teams to help survivors of sexual assault. The Sacramento River Cats welcomed the Salt Lake Bees to Raley Field on Friday night by scoring 16 runs and posting a season-high 19 hits against their visitors. Fresh off a four-game sweep of the Reno Aces, the River Cats remained hot and pulled to within one game of .500. The offense for the River Cats followed a strong performance by their starting pitcher Graham Godfrey. May 31, 2010 — The Annual Walk 'N Rock took place at Raley Field on Sunday, May 30. The event is organized by Sacramento-based Hope Productions Foundation to support local children’s charities. Hope Productions Foundation anticipates that the morning walk, combined with business sponsorships and Sunday evening’s benefit concert, starring rock legends Heart and Sammy Hagar, will raise nearly $700,000 for local children’s charities. SACRAMENTO – In a new twist to the benefit walk, area residents who support the health of our region’s children will walk Arden Fair Mall on Saturday, Oct. 17, as part of Together for Kids’ fund-raising campaign called Walk Across America. A full 100 percent of the funds raised during the local walk will go directly to the specialty care services at the Children’s Center at Sutter Medical Center, Sacramento, where many of the children throughout the region and beyond receive their care from birth to 18 years old for conditions ranging from low birth weight, cancer and brain tumors to diabetes and congenital heart defects. Dog lovers and their dogs will converge in William Land Park on the corner of Sutterville Road and Freeport Boulevard for Sacramento SPCA's 16th annual Doggy Dash and Bark in the Park.
