Nothing lives forever, but according to Clark Kayler, trees can. He extends the life of trees by turning them into furniture. The trees go from decorating the streets to decorating various rooms. Kayler, 41, is the owner and founder of New Helvetia Hardwoods. They rescue trees that have been knocked down by storms, trees that are being chopped down for development purposes or dying trees that are all headed for the landfills. “(I am) giving our city’s trees a second chance,” Kayler said. In early 2005, Kayler noticed a tree being removed from his neighbor’s yard. It bothered him. He asked the neighbor for the redwood tree, and he created his first piece of furniture: a table. As a pr
The City of Sacramento Department of Utilities reminds its Containerized Yard Waste customers that their Leaf Season Loose-in-the-Street Yard Waste Collection begins October 25, 2010 and will continue every-other-week through December 23, 2010. Customers should note that their loose-in-the-street collection day is not the same as their containerized yard waste collection day. Residents who are unsure of their loose-in-the-street collection day can use the Pick-Up Day Finder at http://www.cityofsacramento.org/utilities/solid-waste-recycling or call 3-1-1. Sacramento, CA May 2, 2009 At approximately 8:45 this evening, Sacramento Firefighters were called to unit 213 of the South Sacramento Travel Lodge Mobile Home Park at 6025 Dias Ave. While a full report is not yet available, occupants and their cat were able to safely exit their home and damage was kept to a minimum do to the rapid response of the firefighters. We can only speculate that had this occurred in a fire department brown out area, this situation could have had a dramatically different ending. As soon as we receive more details from Sacramento Fire Department, we will bring you an update.
