Fish Wiggles off Hook but Capitals Snatch Victory from Jaws of Defeat

Sacramento Capitals marquee player, Mardy Fish, the top ranked American at No. 9 in the world, cancelled his appearance at the Capitals home match Friday night against the Newport Beach Breakers. Friday was scheduled to be his only appearance for the Capitals this season. 29 year old Fish has suffered from an abdominal muscle injury for weeks, since the first round of the French Open. He was reinjured Sunday during the Davis Cup Quarterfinals loss against Spain.   Despite the absence of Fish, the Capitals managed a 13-9 halftime lead, winning the men’s singles and women’s doubles, but losing the men’s doubles. The second half saw Anne Koethavong of the Breakers easily defeat Capital Vania

Sacramento was defeated by the Newport Beach Breakers, losing four of five matches with a final score of 24-16. World TeamTennis events consist of a fast-paced format with five sets per match. Each game is scored as one point, with the final accumulation determining the winner of the match. Theoretically, a team could lose the first four sets and still win the match in the final set. The mixed doubles match opened the warm evening, with Capitals rookies Riza Zalameda and Bret

The value of PE classes in junior colleges

An article in the SacBee today discusses a Legislative Analysts’s suggestion that junior colleges either drop PE classes, or that the colleges be paid less to offer them than the level of state funding provided for classes that are deemed more academic in content. As the article points out, students wanting to graduate or transfer are typically required to have one of these classes. What the article doesn’t point out is that that
