This Saturday female skateboarders and street artists are teaming up at Granite Skate Park, located on Ramona Avenue, to spend the afternoon skateboarding together and celebrating art. From noon - 3 p.m. Few and Far, an organization working to create connections among female artists and skateboarders, will be hosting its first Few and Far Skate Jam. This is the first skate event that Few and Far has hosted but they “plan on making it an annual event,” said Joanna Mahaffy, the skateboard representative for Few and Far. EPIC Skatepark of Rocklin hosted Maloof's Road Tour Skate Contest yesterday. The road tour kicked off June 11 in Chicago, traveling to 11 additional cities during the 12-week RV tour across the country. The Tour features Local Skate Contests, Giveaways and Day of Community Service. Other cities include (in order of stops): Kansas City, Denver, Las Vegas, Sacramento, Vancouver, Salt Lake City, Dallas, Birmingham, Miami, Atlanta and Philadelphia.The Maloof Road Tour will work with local skate shops in each city to host skate contests (High Ollie, Best Line contests and more) on Saturdays at each stop of the tour. Word is growing about free weekly skate jams at Surf & Skate's Sacramento headquarters. At least 20 skateboarders have been showing up each week since the Citrus Heights shop's custom-built Skatelite bowl and street course opened a year and a half ago. The skate sessions changed this week from Wednesday to Thursday nights. Most skaters are locals. But up to 60 people from as far as San Francisco and Truckee have dropped in to carve the bowl, practice tricks and learn from each other on any given evening, said Surf & Skate owner Bob Mitchell. Sacramento Kings fans can buy a package for "Skater Night" on April 10, promoting the Maloof Money Cup. For $49, fans get two tickets worth $40.50 each to watch the Kings take on Dirk Nowitzki and the Dallas Mavericks, meet professional skaters Ryan Sheckler, Brandon Biebel and Steve Caballero, and the choice of a Biebel skteboard deck by GIRL or Maloof Money Cup hat by Neff.
