River Cats drop second straight game to Fresno

Before an announced sellout crowd of 14,014 — the first of this season — the River Cats came up short by a score of 4-2 in a Father’s Day matinee against the Fresno Grizzlies. Grizzlies starting pitcher Dan Runzler allowed two hits in four innings of work, but his four walks led to two runs for Sacramento. The Grizzlies used two relievers on the afternoon, with Josh Banks getting credit for the victory and Dan Otero collecting the save after the River Cats had the winning run at the plate in the ninth inning. Mark Ellis, who is on a rehab assignment for the Oakland Athletics, played in his second game and finished 0-3 with a walk. Ellis is scheduled to rejoin the A’s this week. Lenny D

Mayor Johnson: Operation Sellout on track‏

The Sacramento Kings campaign, Operation Sellout, sold out the first home game, Nov. 2 against the Memphis Grizzlies. That means the Kings, last in NBA attendance, sold 17,317 tickets for a team that sold out only three games last season. ESPN reported that the Kings averaged 12,571 fans per game, leaving 4,746 seats empty. Mayor Kevin Johnson, an outspoken advocate for keeping the Kings in Sacramento, is involved with the campaign.   “I went to Gavin and Joe Maloof and asked them how I can be helpful,” Johnson said.  “They said the best thing that would help them right now would be to help them sell out the first two home games, get the fans energized, and rekindle some of the energy

Graham-A-Rama cabaret sells out - in a good way!
