Some local groups could feel county budget pain

While Sacramento County’s budget problems are likely to result in harsh cuts to public safety and social services departments, some of the smaller budget cuts are raising concerns among certain organizations. Sacramento County’s elected leaders are expected to decide this week whether to cut funding from several groups, including the Sacramento Tree Foundation and the Sacramento Convention and Visitors Bureau. The Board of Supervisors plans to approve the county’s budget Thursday or Friday. Hundreds of employees could lose their jobs as the supervisors address a $181 million budget gap. Tour of California's inaugural Grand Prix event set to roll into Sacramento

The Amgen Tour of California returns to Sacramento, bringing even more cycling competition to the Capitol in 2010. This year, Project Sport, the company behind the San Francisco and San Rafael Twilight Criterium races, and the Sacramento Sports Commission have teamed together to add the Sacramento Grand Prix. The inaugural Grand Prix event will run in conjunction with the Tour of California competition, which will feature seven-time Tour de France winner Lance Armstrong. The Grand Prix will act as the precursor to the May 16 Tour event, beginning at 11 a.m. the same day. Project Sport, LLC – producers of the San Francisco and San Rafael Twilight Criterium cycling races – announced today an agreement with the Sacramento Sports Commission and the Amgen Tour of California to present a professional criterium-style cycling race in conjunction with Stage 1 of the 2010 Tour, to be contested on the morning of May 16, 2010, just prior to the Tour’s opening stage arrival in Sacramento.
