The Sacramento Capitals hosted the Boston Lobsters Wednesday evening in a World Team Tennis match at Sunrise Mall. Prior to the match, Sacramento was in a three-way tie for first place in the Western Conference standings, sharing the spot with the Kansas City Explorers and the St. Louis Aces. Kansas City and St. Louis were playing each other on Wednesday, so it was clear that at least one team would finish the day in second place. As Sacramento and Boston took the court, the announcer told the crowd that St. Louis had won their match. It was Sacramento's chance to hold onto a share of first place. The first four of the five events went to tiebreakers and Sacramento led the match 19-17 goi
The World Team Tennis (WTT) Kansas City Explorers, with the current World No. 1 Doubles Team of Bob and Mike Bryan, recently came to challenge the Sacramento Capitals. The new stadium at the Sunrise Mall was sold out on July 12. Tennis fans came to see Bob and Mike Bryan play against their dad, Coach Wayne Bryan of the Capitals. Bob and Mike Bryan are twin brothers who, unless they’re on the court, you really cannot tell apart. World Team Tennis players have their last names on the back of their team uniform and having “Bryan” on both of their backs did not make things any easier. The one sure way to tell them apart is that Mike plays right-handed and Bob is left-handed. Mike and Bob go

Driving down the road on East Roseville Parkway going north towards Roseville’s Westfield Galleria I nearly got into a car wreck. About two blocks from the Galleria, on a 3 car lane section of the Parkway I was trying to make my way across an intersection during a green light. Out of nowhere, a car making a right onto E. Roseville Parkway (on a red light) casually moved across all 3 lanes to pull up right in front of me. I was going about 45 mph (or whatever the speed limit was) and I had to step on my brakes as if I was stomping on a cockroach in the middle of the night. I did not hesitate and slammed on my brakes. My car swerved, I heard my brakes making a loud screech and saw (out of my
The Sacramento Capitals opened their 2010 season Monday evening at the Galleria in Roseville. The World TeamTennis event featured Sacramento’s Michael Chang, a 2008 inductee to the International Tennis Hall of Fame. Sacramento was defeated by the Newport Beach Breakers, losing four of five matches with a final score of 24-16. World TeamTennis events consist of a fast-paced format with five sets per match. Each game is scored as one point, with the final accumulation determining the winner of the match. Theoretically, a team could lose the first four sets and still win the match in the final set. The mixed doubles match opened the warm evening, with Capitals rookies Riza Zalameda and Bret
