This month’s Second Saturday Art Walk provided several new venues for art and music lovers to enjoy. Artists showcased their talents at various galleries, pubs, boutiques and restaurants. Several street performers also displayed their talent at several places along Midtown. Spanglish Arte conducted a sidewalk sale that included many items available at vast discounts. Spanglish Arte also allowed other local artists the opportunity to sell their art and merchandise. One of the tables included the work of Roberto Robles Jr., whose colorful drawings drew the attention of many casual observers. His drawings can be customized to the buyer’s specs making the art that much more personal. Insi

"Here is to camaraderie, lugged steel, and plus fours. Here is to the (truly) social ride. Here is to tippling from hip flasks, maintaining a leisurely pace, and flaunting with style." The quote from Sacramento Tweed's blog reflects the invitation the group extends for bicyclists to join a jovial "Seersucker Ride" June 27. Sacramento Tweed, founded by Rick and Erin Houston last November, is an inclusive group that organizes bike rides emphasizing the activity as a social and leisurely event. Ride organizers include Chris Tafoya; Lorena Beightler, creator of Sac Cycle Chic; Jim Brown, communications director for California Bicycle Coalition; Brad Gleed; and Alan Barnard, creator of EcoVe

"Hunt the Grid II" is a repeat of last year's wildly popular scavenger hunt that sent teams of four riders racing across the central city in a friendly competition of pedals and wits to seek out trinkets, images, and Sacramento landmarks both popular and obscure. Over one hundred participants signed
The Sacramento Bicycle Kitchen and the Friends of Fremont Park held the first Sacramento Bicycle Swap in Midtown on Saturday. Dozens of people turned out to sell, buy, trade or just talk shop at Fremont Park. The swap offered a little of everything, from well-worn Bianchis to classic banana seats and cutting-edge bamboo machines. Danilo Masuelli and his crew from Masuelli Bicycles in Stockton were there to show off their sustainably built, locally grown bikes. The bamboo frames take 40 to 60 hours to make by hand and use bamboo grown in Rocklin, said Masuelli, a native of Argentina. While Asia has long had bikes made of bamboo, the Stockton shop is one of no more than four making bambo
Thanksgiving normally brings family and friends together around the dinner table, but only a Sacramento Thanksgiving brings them together around the Capitol Mall roundabout, whooping and yelling on bicycles. Give thanks for the Appetite Enhancement Bike Ride. The annual underground bicycle parade attracted over 500 people to the California Stage early Thursday morning. R and 25th streets were littered with road bikes, penny-farthings, low-riders, vintage cruisers, every bike imaginable, plus a giant toaster mobile. DJ Larry Rodriguez' international beats and raffle ramblings rang out over the block. What started out as a casual ride with a dozen bikers 21 or 22 years ago — no one can rea

We had a great beginning to Bikeramento Week, last night at the Sacramento Bicycle Kitchen located in midtown. Ed Cox and Chris Dougherty put on a very informative presentation about riding around in an urban environment and how to keep our bikes safe for riding. Chris is a very engaging speaker with great tips. He stresses the importance of being visible to everyone on the road. "Blinking lights are good but as a motorist looking at them is hard to judge your distance. I recommend that you wear a solid light on the back of your jacket and on your helmet" he suggests. Chris also encourages us to learn to care for our bikes. "Sacramento Bicycle Kitchen is a good resource; you not only ca
