Sac-Con, Sacramento’s Comic, Toy & Anime Show, continues to grow in reputation and in numbers. Comic books, toys, anime art and merchandise, video games, panels, costumes and other entertainment was provided for guests at the Scottish Rite Center in Sacramento on Sunday. Many guests come for a few events at Sac-Con, but the overwhelming majority attends to meet new and old friends and meet their favorite voice actors. Over 100 vendor tables, several small press artists, and arts and craft stations were set up throughout the Center. Midtown’s first Second Saturday event of 2012 saw smaller crowds this weekend. The smaller crowds however made it easier to talk to artists who exhibited their work. A number of establishments also appeared to have closed down or moved from Midtown's J Street and surrounding area since last month. This situation has created a new environment where several businesses are collaborating to bring events to a storefront during Second Saturday. The Woodlake Hotel, located on 500 Leisure Lane in Sacramento, hosted this weekend’s Winter 2012 SacAnime convention. Formerly known as the Radisson Hotel, the Woodlake Hotel opened its doors to over 5,000 visitors who came to see several of their favorite voice actors and celebrity panels, enjoy Café Hoshi, play games, and attend how-to workshops, music video contests, and live concerts. Thousands of Anime fans gathered at the Radisson Hotel, on Leisure Lane, this weekend to experience the 3-day event. A venue that keeps growing every year it has already outgrown three sites; the Sunrise Mall, Scottish Rite Center and looking at this year’s attendance it may already be outgrowing the Radisson Hotel. This weekend Sacramento fans can get their fill of everything anime during the 5th annual SacAnime Convention at the Radisson Hotel. The event has increased in popularity since its inception in 2004. In an e-mail interview director of console gaming and press liaison Jason Dube said last year's event was attended by several thousand people. This year the numbers are expected to be even bigger. According to SacAnime's website the convention began as an extension of the Sac Con show, an event geared more toward comic books, toys and collectibles.
