Folsom Pro Rodeo

The city of Folsom celebrated its 51st year hosting the Folsom Pro Rodeo this Fourth of July weekend, attracting residents from all over the Sacramento area for Old West-style festivities at the Dan Russell Arena. The rodeo kicked off with a cattle drive through Folsom’s Historic District on Thursday evening, with festivities lasing until Sunday. The heat did not deter people from attending the sold-out event in full sun and Western dress. The Pained Ladies Drill Team were the first performers of Sunday evening, entering the arena on horseback with patriotic costumes and American flags. Bulls and Brews Fun Run and Folsom Cattle Drive

For the past 14 years the Folsom Cattle Drive has taken place down the streets Folsom. This past Thursday approximately 50 steer were moved down Sutter Street. A shorter route was planned for this year to showcase the Sutter Street Revitalization Project. A parade of rodeo participants and community groups preceded the cattle drive. Before the Folsom Cattle Drive took place a Bulls and Brews Fun Run, and obstacle course, was scheduled to take place. Folsom’s Leading Young Professionals (FLYP) presented the fun run. Proceeds from the run benefited the Hope Productions,   The run was a one mile fun run and obstacle course that began at Folsom’s Sutter Middle School. A Coors Light Corral

California State Fair opens Wednesday, runs through Aug. 1

From dinosaurs to wiener dogs, lawnmower races to Michael Jackson’s Neverland Ranch rides, corndogs to chocolate covered bacon, the 157-year-old California State Fair has something for everyone. Capital Crossroads donates $8,000 to Saddle Pals

On August 28, 2009, Sacramento’s Capital Crossroads Gay Rodeo Association (SCCGRA) presented Saddle Pals, a program of the United Cerebral Palsy of Greater Sacramento, with a check for $8,000. The presentation took place at the W-Bar Ranch in Elverta, CA. Saddle Pals was selected to be the beneficiary of funds raised at by Capital Crossroads 9th Sierra Stampede Rodeo and Festival, held June 5-7, 2009. Saddle Pals is a therapeutic horsemanship program that provides services to children and adults with physical or developmental disabilities. Crazy "cool" events this weekend!!

I can honestly say that I am proud to be a Sacramentan. Even more so since I began working on the events calendar for Sacramento at the Sacramento Convention & Visitors Bureau! I have pretty much lived in the Sacramento area my whole life and never before did I realize that there are so many things going on- all the time! This weekend is packed full of Festivals, fundraisers, music & theatre and hopefully by reading this you are prompted to get out and have some fun!
