City leaders approve Arizona boycott

Sacramento’s elected leaders agreed to boycott Arizona companies in protest of the state’s new immigration laws. The City Council passed the boycott Tuesday with a 6-1 vote. Mayor Kevin Johnson and council members Rob Fong, Bonnie Pannell, Ray Tretheway, Sandy Sheedy and Kevin McCarty voted to approve the boycott. Councilman Robbie Waters opposed the move. Council members Steve Cohn and Lauren Hammond were absent. Hammond was absent from the entire City Council meeting, but Cohn appeared at City Hall to discuss a separate issue after the hearing on the Arizona law. Profiling of Sacramento area youth How effectively are we really addressing profiling of area youth if we simply address racial profiling in terms of black and white?  17-year-old Terrey Randolph, who is a black teen, cleaned dog kennels, backyards, garages and mowed lawns to earn extra money. Terrey went to clean the backyard of a south area home. The owner was absent and Terrey was instructed by the owner's wife and adult daughter to go to the home and care for the dog and clean the landscaping. Hear Me Roar

Today, shortly after 5 PM, my son called me from his cellular phone. It was obvious to me, immediately, that he was upset. Apparently, while walking home, an older Caucasian man approached my son and accused him of harassing his younger brother. Per my son, the man was "in [his] face," and he felt threatened. My son stated that he offered this man respect by referring to him as "sir" and looking him straight in his eyes; and although it was not necessary, he also told this stranger where he was after school, which was not where the incident took place.
