Opening day of the Oak Park Farmers Market is still three weeks away but the three-year-old market is already tempting me with at least three reasons to switch my farmers market shopping day from Sunday to Saturday starting May 5. Reason 1: Site improvements. The market site in McClatchy Park at 35th St. and 5th Ave. has been spruced up for its 2012 opening, with improvements like concrete walkways, granite paving for vendor stalls, landscaping, shade trees and benches. Reason 2: Dollar-for-dollar food stamp match. Market customers can use their EBT cards to purchase tokens that are redeemable for purchases from market vendors. Cavendish takes lead in Sacramento's First Stage of Amgen Tour

Mark Cavendish, HTC-Columbia, donned the first leader's jersey of the Amgen Tour 2010 in Sacramento today. Following in second place was JJ Hado, Saxo Bank; third place - Alexander Kristoff, BMX Racing Team; fourth place - Robbie Hunter, Garmin Transistions and Jonathan Cantwell, Fly V Australia. Cavendish is fifth from the right as the tour travelled down Jackson Rd before reaching Folsom Blvd and the final leg of Stage One that ended at the State Capitol.   Traveling at a good clip along Jackson Rd, Maarten Tjallingii (Rabobank), Chad Beyer (BMC), Mark De Maar (United Healthcare) and Paul Mach (Bissell) had lead for most of the race. Professional Bikers Practicing in Sacramento

Minutes after leaving the office today, a giant swarm of bikers nearly hit my car as they quickly turned the corner from 9th onto H street. They made their way up H street at about 20-30 miles per hour, before turning left again onto 16th. I was far behind the small group, but when I caught up, I realized it was Team Rabobank, one of the teams in the Amgen Tour of California. Like a stalker, I stuck my head and camera out the window and snapped a few photographs from only a few feet away during the practice ride.
