City Councilwoman Sandy Sheedy, along with the Hagginwood community, will be gathering Saturday in honor of a new soccer field recently constructed in Hagginwood Park. The soccer field will be named after Grantland Johnson, a former city councilman and county supervisor representing all of North Sacramento. “We’re expecting about 60-100 people will show up,” said Jim Cones, director for Sacramento’s Parks and Recreation Department. “Recently we had a grand opening of a park in North Sacramento, and there were several hundred people.” Cones said the plan to implement the soccer field came from a survey that was conducted in 2008. “Some of the parks in the city were not as safe as they s

Last night the Auburn Community's main park had it's playground torched. As an member of the rec district's board of directors I am obviuosly upset. As a father and resident of the community I am furious. Vandalism & delinquency costs a community on so many levels, from lost dollars and time, to lost opportunities and as was the case with a rock toss over an overpass recently, serious injuries and possibly worse. Whether in the heart of a city, or in an outlying suburb it is getting worse, and nobody is immune. I so encourage anybody that witnesses any questionable activity to please notify the proper authorities. Only by banning together & sending a strong message we will not accept

The playground was erected and the park was rejuvenated last Thursday with the help of over 250 volunteers. The pl
More than 250 volunteers from Home Depot and KaBOOM!, a nonprofit organization that builds "playspaces" across the nation, showed up at Zapata Park today to assemble a new playground designed by children and refurbish the park. The playground, located in Alkali Flat on 905 E St., was the 1,764th playground constructed by the two companies and was built for children ages 2-12. Just the other day I was experiencing another adventure on my Sac Press bike when I came across a very random corner in down town. This pretend playground is located on 9th and O. I was so intrigued by the corner, that I put fliers everywhere, hoping that I would spark someone’s interest to go to the site while maybe answering a question for me. What is this corner? And what is this corner all about?
