Kings falter late, lose to Phoenix Suns 109-100

The Sacramento Kings were unable to achieve back-to-back wins as they fell to Steve Nash and the Phoenix Suns for the third time this season Tuesday night at Power Balance Pavilion. DeMarcus Cousins did all he could, leading all scorers with a career-high 41 points en route to the 109-100 loss. Cousins also hauled in 12 rebounds and shot 16-25 from the field. “He had a career night taking advantage of their interior,” Kings coach Keith Smart said. “We had him posting up in different areas on the floor, so he had both baseline- and middle-drive. Then they started doubling, and that’s something that’s going to happen to him as he grows as a pro.” But not even Cousins’ monster game could o

Disappointment Returns for the Kings

Game Summary Going into Saturday’s game against the Sacramento Kings, the Phoenix Suns had every reason to be confident. One of only five teams to have a better record on the road than at home, they had won three of their last four games, including two straight road games. Moreover, they had beaten the Kings in 17 of their last 22 encounters. Having just stunned the "Best in the West" Oklahoma City Thunder, the Kings also had every reason to be confident. Sporting a 7 - 4 record at Power Balance Pavilion, they had won four of their last five games, while the three losses in the past seven games were by a combined total of a mere 8 points. Moreover, they had beaten the Suns in their most

LONGEST WINNING STREAK JUST GOT LONGER

Sacramento played catch-up for most of Tuesday’s game against the Phoenix Suns. Kings’ leads were brief and meager. In fact, their largest lead was only 6 points, but fortunately it came when just 13 seconds remained in the contest. Having come back from a 10-point fourth quarter deficit, the Kings eked out a 2-point lead with less than a minute to go. It was precarious. Tight games come down to converting foul shots and, in an anomaly, the Kings’ field goal percentage at that point (53%) was actually higher than their free throw percentage at that point (51%). Nevertheless, when free throws were needed, free throws were made. Tyreke Evans sank two, Marcus Thornton sank two, and the game

Rookie Cousins get double-double in Kings preseason win

The new-look Kings took the hardwood on Tuesday against the Phoenix Suns for the first exhibition game of the year and came away with a 109-95 victory against their Western Conference rivals. It was a time to let Head Coach Paul Westphal see how the younger guys have improved and give him a chance to figure out who will be on his final roster. For the fans, it was a time to have renewed enthusiasm. A time to see the future. A time for hope once again. For the players, it was and a chance to bang on someone else besides each other. For the training camp hopefuls who wandered into town a few weeks ago, it was a chance to prove they belong. And at the end of the day, most everyone seemed

"He's on pace to do something only three other (rookies) in the history of the NBA have done in the past – averaging 20 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists (per game)." The three players who Johnson talked about are LeBron James and hall-of-famers Oscar Robertson and Michael Jordan. Currently, Evans is

Tyreke Tuesdays: Evans shines despite Kings' woes

Kings can't blunt Suns shine

In Kingsland, just when you think things can't get any worse, there's another game.   This game came Friday night, and the words terrible, ugly, horrible and help came to mind during Phoenix's 114-102 victory over the Kings before a disappointed crowd of 14,922 at Arco Arena.   The Kings (16-33) lost their fifth straight game, their 12th in the past 13 and 19th of the past 22. They have lost nine of their past 12 home games and now begin a three game pre-All-Star Game road trip to Toronto, New York and Detroit. Sacramento has won just three of 24 road games.   How bad was it? Well, six Phoenix players, including all five starters, reached double-figure scoring, led by forward Amare S

Kings and Suns look for answers to Arenas situation

The reaction to Washington Wizards Javaris Crittenton and Gilbert Arenas' involvement with guns in their locker room at the Verizon Center has been shock, surprise, amazement and an unending curiosity. Those were the feelings expressed before and after the Phoenix Suns' 113-109 victory over the Sacramento Kings at Arco Arena Tuesday night, before an announced crowd of 13,630. Many of the Sacramento Kings and Phoenix Suns want to hear what really occurred on Dec. 21, when Arenas says he showed Crittenton three guns as "a joke" in response to a beef the pair had two nights earlier on and following a card game on a flight to Washington from Phoenix. Arenas has admitted having guns in the ar
