The Broadway Hardware store that has been closed since late 2008 might soon be opening as a pawn shop. “We’re not 100 percent committed to that location, but we did lock in the building while we do our due diligence,” said Stan Lukowicz, Jr., who owns Capital City Loan & Jewelry, a chain of six pawn shops in the Sacramento area, with his father and brother. The first one was opened in 1993, and its most recent stores opened in Roseville and on Florin Mall Drive about two years ago. On Tuesday, descendants of the immigrants, who settled in Sacramento, celebrated the longevity of a downtown business that has remained in the family for more than 100 years. Sacramento's oldest family-run pawn shop will celebrate 100 years in business with a jewelry raffle Tuesday. California Loan & Jewelry Co., 916 J St., will raffle $30,000 in diamonds and gold at 3 p.m. About 5,000 people have entered the drawing, which ended Dec. 31. "It's a way to thank our customers for keeping us in business for 100 years," said Warren Anapolsky. He who owns the store with his brother Larry. The brothers' grandfather and great uncle opened the store in 1909. The raffle is the culmination of a 13-month celebration of the store's longevity.
