Paula Poundstone: Storytelling at the Crest Theatre

"The crowd was not what one would typically expect to see at a comedy show. This was not the typical venue for a comedy show and Paula Poundstone is not a typical comedian. The Crest Theatre was full to the ceiling on Friday night. The older crowd crammed their way into the tiny seats of the main auditorium. They were likely public radio enthusiasts who had heard Poundstone’s frequent appearances on NPR’s “Wait, Wait Don’t Tell Me,” or the “Prairie Home Companion.” Poundstone ambled onto the stage slightly after seven-thirty after a short hold while patrons who had arrived merely on time were herded to their seats. Paula Poundstone returns to the Crest Theater

Sacramentans are in for a treat when comedian Paula Poundstone comes to the Crest Theater Sept. 30. Armed with nothing but a stool, a microphone and a can of Diet Pepsi, Poundstone draws on her own life in her stand-up show and nothing is off the table: her kids, her cats, her demanding job, her frustration at getting older and a full bag of neuroses. How could Poundstone follow that? Simple. She just jumped right in. "So, were you all cl

When asked if Poundstone enjoyed all of the extensive travel, she just replied that because she spends so little time at each location, that she calls herself, "a lazy traveler," and that she mostly works or sleeps in the hotel room. In the old days when she would perform at comedy clubs and be there four of five nights, Poundstone used to go exploring. She even reminisced about the Sacramento Railroad Museum when she performed at the historic Laughs Unlimited in Old Sac. O
