Mexican Tacos with Korean flair are coming to the corner of 15th and L streets as GoGi’s Korean BBQ is opening Tuesday in the former “Park To Go” kiosk. “GoGi’s tacos is a cross between Mexican and Korean taco stands,” said Executive Chef Christian Palmos. “Since there are no taco trucks allowed downtown, it’s a great location.” Palmos said many of the restaurants in the area are more upscale, and he thinks the takeaway food – with patio seating available – will be a good fit. “It’s great food at a great price, and we’re giving the first taco for free opening week,” he said. Tacos – made with Korean barbecue beef short rib, spicy pork, chicken or tofu – will cost $2, and burritos will
Three members of the Plain White T’s, Tom Higgenson, Tim Lopez and Mike Retond, made an appearance at Café 15L/Park Ultra Lounge Thursday evening and played an acoustic five song set to 100 plus adoring fans. The show was put on by the radio station Now 100.5 and follows similar performances by Colbie Calliat and the Goo Goo Dolls. The Plain White T’s, which was founded in 1997, made a name for themselves with their Grammy nominated hit single “Hey There Delilah,” which took over the airways in 2008. Together with “1-2-3-4” the band sold over 5 million digital downloads. Now, the Plain White T’s are releasing a new album, ‘Wonders of the Younger’ via Hollywood Records on December 7th.
After nearly 5 years away from the spotlight, the Goo Goo Dolls are releasing a new album titled 'Some For the Rest of Us' (August 31, 2010). To help promote the new album, the band brought their grunge style to the Park Ultra Lounge were they performed for 100 select fans of the radio station - Now100.5. The Goo Goo Dolls walked on stage at 4:00pm and played for about 20 minutes. They performed three new songs ‘The Sweetest Lie’, ‘Home’, and ‘As I Am’ and an older but fan favorite ‘Slide’. From the bands first appearance to their final song, it was obvious just how much the fans loved them. Between songs, Brian (the night DJ from Now100.5) asked the band non-scripted fan questions and w
Cummerbunds, up-dos and corsages were all the rage at the Park Ultra Lounge for Friday night's "Prom at the Park." The second annual event benefiting Big Brothers Big Sisters of Sacramento was hosted by its Young Professionals Committee. The patio was decorated with balloons, making the atmosphere reminiscent of a teen-age dance. But the scene was far from a high school gym covered in streamers. The lighting was romantic and since the crowd was 21-plus, the drinks were spiked. Antonya Williams has been a Big Sister for two years and involved with the YPC since its inception eighteen months ago. The idea for an adult prom came from her Little Sister, who was struggling to graduate from hi
The Young Professionals Committee of Big Brothers Big Sisters is hosting the 2nd annual Prom at The Park, a red carpet fund raiser that is sure to be one of the biggest events of the summer for Sacramento’s 21 and up, young professional crowd. This event is for the 21 and over crowd and will feature red carpet photography and a VIP lounge experience. In the true sense of Prom, attendees are encouraged to come dressed in their best. The Park put its "no tennis shoe" rule on hold Thursday night. The club's dress code normally requires shoes to be "polishable," but hundreds of Sacramentans came together in all kinds of footwear to celebrate the life of Adam Goldstein, aka DJ AM. AM, a celebrity DJ, died August 28 of an apparent Oxycontin overdose. He also was known for his love of Nike sneakers. In addition to owning more than 700 pair, he was designing a signature shoe for Nike at the time of his death. At about 10 p.m., a crowd filled the lounge/club to dance to tunes played by DJ AM's friends. As part of the "Get Loud 4 DJ AM" celebration, a slideshow depicted him with celebrity friends such as actress Mandy Moore
The second installment of the six week, 12 salon hair competition "Hair Wars" took place last Thursday with runway performances from Allure and Canvas Salon. Each week two Sacramento salons go head-to-head, showcasing their best in avant-garde hair styling. The runway, constructed specifically for the event, stood in the middle of the Park Ultra Lounge's outdoor patio. Approximately 200 people piled on top of benches and stood on chairs to get a glimpse of the action. Allure was one of the finalists in last year's Hair Wars. Owner Missy O'Daniel said the competition offers her stylists an outlet by which they can show not only their patrons, but also the community as a whole, what they a
The Park Ultra Lounge is kicking off summer in high style. This year's "Designer Fashion Series" began on April 16 and will continue every Thursday night until June 11. Every week, local designers, boutiques, and salons will take the stage in a parade of couture, great hair and makeup and sass. Held on The Park's outdoor patio area and makeshift runway area, the first three weeks of the Series have had a great turnout with barely any breathing room surrounding the runway as the models strutted their stuff. Now in its third year, the past two years—when it was previously called "Spring Fashion Series"—have been directed mainly toward local boutiques before the addition of designers this y
