Old Sacramento's New Year's Celebration

Many things were happening during this New Year’s Eve. With no rain in sight Old Sacramento looked like a nice place to be. Thousands of people made their way to Old Sacramento increasing traffic all around and finding a parking space downtown even that much more difficult. As with last year, there were many events planned throughout the evening. The Natomas Night Hawks Drum Corps started off the evening a little after 6 p.m., at Waterfront Park. Unlike many venues scheduled for New Year’s Eve, this was an event meant for the whole family. A Gathering of Spirits Harvest Festival

A Gathering of Spirits Harvest Festival, Honoring Pagan Pride, was held on Saturday and Sunday, September 18 and 19 at the Fair Oaks VFW. This Harvest Celebration had plenty of activities each day. Many vendors were also at hand selling many of their magical wares. Three or more public rituals were held each day and there was also plenty to do for children and adults. Drumsum, a local world music style band, was on hand to provide musical entertainment. The event started slow but gained momentum as people started to set up their sitting area in front of the Southside Park Amphitheatre. Once the entertainment began on the amphitheatre stage it indeed became a spectacular event. Earlier in the day, as I approached the entrance to the event, three pe

New Year's Eve ball drop off, fireworks on

You may have already heard the New Year's Eve ball drop is off for this year. Norm Alvis of Edaddywarbucks.com, which co-sponsored the drop last year along with Paragary Restaurant Group, asked both the city and the Downtown Sacramento Partnership to pay a third of the estimated $100,000 for a ball drop. Neither agreed, so the event was canceled. One celebration that might compare to the spectacle of last year's celebration, which drew an estimated crowd of 12,000 to 20,000 people, is a city-sponsored event in Old Sacramento. Organized by the Sacramento Convention and Visitors Bureau, the celebration will feature live music, food and drink vendors and perhaps most importantly, a firewor
