When Coats for Kids needed on-the-ground logistics, NEWS10 called PODS Moving and Storage of Sacramento

PODS of Sacramento provides vital storage and logistics solution for NEWS10’s 21st Coats for Kids Winter Drive. (SACRAMENTO, Calif.) – PODS Moving and Storage of Sacramento will donate several of its storage containers to help collect donated coats in support of NEWS10’s 21st Coats for Kids Winter Drive through Dec 9. Logistics were a nightmare for organizers prior to using PODS®, according to Brian Bills, a lifetime resident of Fair Oaks, Calif., and territory manager at PODS of Sacramento. “In 2010, we supplied three PODS® containers at Swansons main dry-cleaning facility and transported each filled unit to Cal Expo where volunteers from the Salvation Army sorted the coats by size,” B

Journalist Jonathan Mumm retires from News 10

Sacramento TV reporter Jonathan Mumm – host of KXTV News 10's California Postcard and Mumm at the Movies – will retire from the station this month after nearly 30 years. But don't expect to find him spending afternoons playing checkers just yet. The five-time Emmy Award-winning journalist is just moving his energy and talent east to Roseville Performing Arts (RPA) Studio, which he owns with his wife, singer and music teacher Roberta Mumm. About a year after joining News 10 on July 11, 1983, Mumm became the reporter and producer for the station's new travel feature series called California Postcard. The show ran twice a week for 15 years, took an eight-year hiatus and resumed in May 2007

More hyperlocal news coming to area

The Sacramento region is about to see even more hyperlocal news coverage as TV station News10 and AOL's Patch.com roll out new media sites nearly simultaneously. Sacramento's ABC affiliate, News10, and its website, News10.net, are preparing to launch 30 hyperlocal news sites in early 2011. Patch.com flipped the switch on its first site in suburban Rosemont on Thursday and plans to start 11 more sites in Davis, the suburbs and the foothills within the next year. The sites add to a recent proliferation of online media offerings in the area. "News10 is now getting down deep into the hyperlocal news business," said Tim Geraghty, vice president of the News10 Information Center. The TV stati

Development department audit raises questions

An audit report stating that the city’s development department failed to collect more than $2.3 million in fees from developers raises a host of questions. The audit’s finding that city employees broke state and city laws makes the situation even more complex. The audit, prepared by Sacramento firm Sjoberg Evashenk Consulting, Inc., investigated the department’s work from fiscal years 2007 through 2010. “In summary, the weak system of internal controls allowed employees to disregard state and city building laws, codes, and regulations aimed at protecting the public’s health, safety, and general welfare,” the audit states. Read the full audit report here. The City Council is expected to

Eight distribution centers were scattered from Stockton to Lodi, Fairfield to Roseville and Cal Expo. 15,000 coats were handed out at the Cal Expo distribution center alone. "This is our largest center by far," Sacramento County Salvation Army Coordinator David Bentley said. "By comparison, the Roseville center will only hand out approximately 1,500 coats." Ghosthunters Get Busy During Halloween

Ghosthunters Get Busy During Halloween By Paul Dale Roberts, HPI General Manager/Ghost Hunter/Ghostwriter It’s getting close to Halloween. People want to get scared. The date is October 21, 2008, Tuesday. The Stockton Record wants me to do an initial investigation at a legendary haunted home in Stockton. The home is located at N. Pershing Street. Waiting for me in this home are the lovely Christine Taylor, her brother and videographer. The owner Rick Freeman, his enchanting daughter Bobbie Lawson and her grandmother are also waiting. The owner gives me a briefing about this home that reminds me of a cross between a countryside cottage and a European castle. Legend has it, that it was bui
