The Captain of the ship decided not to turn over his ship to the Dutch Marines, so he scuttled the ship. He safely had the crewmen go to the shore. He then heated up the boilers and opened the sea cocks. When the cold water hit the hot boilers, the ship exploded, ripping the ship in half. It sank in eight minutes.
