Journalists are “no longer restricted to one medium of storytelling,” Andrew Nixon said as he began the Intro to Video Storytelling Workshop at The Sacramento Press Wednesday night. You don’t have to use video in every story either, he added. Nixon is a multimedia producer for Capital Public Radio based in Sacramento. His past experiences include professional photojournalism, motion graphics, web platforms and currently video journalism. TED stands for “Technology, Education, Design.” It is a small nonprofit organization devoted to “Ideas Worth Spreading.” Started in 1984, its purpose has spread to include an annual U.S. conference in Long Beach as well as a TEDGlobal conference in the United Kingdom, a TEDTalks online video site, an annual TED Prize, a nationwide local program called TEDx and more. We at The Sacramento Press are pleased to note that one of our new community contributors, Ali Tabatabai, who wrote just two days ago on a local health forum, has won a journalism award. Tabatabai, who went to journalism school at San Francisco State, won fourth place in the 49th annual William Randolph Hearst Foundation’s Journalism Awards Program. Ali won in the second year of the Multimedia Competition, coming in fourth out of 78 entrants from 47 undergraduate journalism programs at colleges and universities around the country.
