What's Happening at the Capitol: April 18

7:30 a.m. - Noon The National Multiple Sclerosis Society is hosting its fundraiser, the MS Walk. Registration starts at 7:30 a.m. and is free, but donations are recommended. The walk -- one mile or 5K -- starts at 9 a.m. The walk will be followed by a lunch, a "Strut your Mutt" dog contest and a performance by Jodette's Belly Dancers. A silent auction will run from 8 to 11 a.m., and there will be a booth to buy tickets to a June 3 River Cats game, with a percentage of sales going to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. No other events are planned until Monday.

Eat, shop & play to support a good cause

It seems more so now than ever before that organizations across the board are reaching out for help. Despite all of the "doom-and-gloom" being reported on in the news, I consider myself to be a fairly positive person with an optomistic outlook on life. However, reality tends to sink in a little when you find that local mainstays within your hometown are being threatened. These times of "crisis" are when charity organizations and community support foundations see a significant spike in demand for their services.
