If you were at Arco Arena Wednesday night, you might have thought the Kings had just won a NBA Championship. A thrilling midcourt shot at the buzzer by Tyreke Evans sent the place into a massive frenzy, ending the Kings' eight-game skid with a 100-98 win over the Memphis Grizzlies. After strong showings by DeMarcus Cousins (21 points, 16 rebounds) and Beno Udrih (24 points, 4 rebounds), it looked like yet another disappointing fourth-quarter loss for the Kings. O.J. Mayo gave the Grizzlies a 98-97 lead with a difficult fadeaway jumper with 1.5 seconds remaining to seemingly seal the deal. Then the impossible happened as Evans took the next inbound pass and raced to midcourt, jumping into
It seemed like a perfect opportunity for the Kings. You know, take advantage of a tired, worn out Memphis team who were not only coming off a double-overtime loss the night before, but catch them on their fourth game in five nights. Even though Sacramento head coach Paul Westphal told his team before the game that he didn't believe in that mumbo jumbo, the team from Tennessee grabbed an early lead and rarely looked back as the Kings lost to the Memphis Grizzlies 100-91. “I never bought into that stuff,” Westphal said in the postgame press conference. “We won’t use that as an excuse if that happens to us, and it doesn’t mean we’re supposed to win because they played last night. This is
While the Sacramento Kings and their fans sit at home and observe the NBA Playoffs within the confines of their living room, there is something Kings Fans can look forward to while the teams remaining fight for the Larry O’Brien Trophy. What Kings Fans can look forward to, is the upcoming NBA Draft on June 24. Before the Sacramento Kings decide on who they will be selecting next month, they must first know which slot they will be picking from. Last year the Kings had the highest odds of winning the top overall pick, and having the opportunity to land Blake Griffin, who was touted as the top prospect coming out of college. But as you all know, the Kings did not win the lottery and ended u
After sitting out five games, Sacramento Kings rookie guard Tyreke Evans could play today against the Indiana Pacers. After sustaining a concussion when the Milwaukee Bucks' Ersan Ilyasova inadvertently hit him with an elbow, he sat out for three games before practicing last Thursday in Boston. When Evans complained of a headache at practice, the team ruled him out for the next two games. The Kings (24-50) have not done well since Evans' injury, compiling a 1-4 record since then. After beating the Los Angeles Clippers in L.A., the Kings lost at home against the Memphis Grizzlies the next night. The team left for a five-game road trip and lost to a then seven-win New Jersey Nets team, th
Kings rookie guard Tyreke Evans was playing the best basketball of his rookie season, but his it took a bad turn during last Friday's game against the Milwaukee Bucks. Late in the fourth quarter, Evans was hit by Ersan Ilyasova while he was swinging his elbows. As a result, Evans sustained a slight concussion, a bruised jaw and two cracked teeth. A fractured jaw was feared to be the diagnosis, and it would have been a horrible end to his spectacular first season in the NBA. He'll miss at least a week, which includes games against the Los Angeles Clippers, Memphis Grizzlies, New Jersey Nets and possibly the Boston Celtics. In the last two games played until his injury, Evans chalked up 2
With a little less than six minutes left in the fourth quarter and the Kings down by only a point, it looked as though they were going to hang in there with a good Memphis Grizzlies ball club Monday night. Grizzlies’ guard O.J. Mayo apparently did not see it that way. With the game 82-81 with the Grizzlies on top and 5:33 to go, Mayo, who was just three of 14 from the field at the time, found his shot. The Grizzlies’ guard scored Memphis’ next 10 points, going four for four from the field and ignited a 20-5 Memphis scoring run that resulted in the 102-85 win over the Kings. The Kings were without Tyreke Evans for the second straight game. Evans suffered a concussion on March 19 when he c
While the NBA season quickly moves to an end, the Kings and power forward Carl Landry have to work out something. Despite a fourth-quarter collapse that led to a 102-85 loss Monday night to the Memphis Grizzlies, the Kings, for a few minutes, appeared to have a way to get the ball to Landry. Moreover, Landry, whom the Kings desperately would love to make their low-post threat, appeared ready to inherit the position. Landry, who scored a team-high 23 points on nine of 13 field-goal attempts, made the best of his offensive opportunities. And the Kings were hanging quite nicely with the Grizzlies (38-33), one of the NBA's more talented young squads. Ultimately, though, Sacramento (24-47
Kings rookie guard Tyreke Evans underwent x-rays and a CAT scan Saturday morning to re-examine his jaw, injured during the latter portion of Friday night's 114-108 double overtime loss to the Milwaukee Bucks. No fractures were found during Saturday's examination and Evans will be re-evaluated Monday. The Kings left today for Los Angeles to meet the Clippers Sunday afternoon and will return in the evening in preparation for Monday's night's game at Arco Arena against the Memphis Grizzlies. The Kings announced in a release that Evans also suffered a slight concussion in the collision with Milwaukee's Ersa Ilyasova.
