Sunday was the Lunar New Year for several Asian cultures, including the Vietnamese. The Vietnamese New Year celebration, Tết, began Saturday morning in a parking lot on the corner of Stockton Boulevard and Fowler Avenue. It started with the City of Sacramento's ribbon cutting ceremony for Little Saigon. This was followed by a New Year parade proceeding south down Stockton Boulevard to Florin Road, where participants viewed the County of Sacramento's ribbon cutting ceremony and participated in the Tết Festival. Did your birthday pass recently, but you long to celebrate it a few more weeks? Pout no longer, because if you were born in January, February or March, you can receive a free entrée and a slice of banana cream pie from any Fat’s Asian Dining restaurant with their Chinese New Year birthday special. According to Jerry Fat, president of Fat’s Restaurants, the Fat family has been doing this promotion for at least the last four or five years. "January and February are usually slow months because it's right after the holidays," Fat said. They extended the promotion through March as a way to accommodate the tough economic times.
