KINGS ARE HOME AGAIN...but for how long?

It’s an enjoyable new tradition: on every February 28 during this decade (yes...both of them), the Sacramento Kings beat the Los Angeles Clippers. In 2010, it was by 97-92, while this time around, the final score was 105-99. The event could well be called “Double Throwback Night,” or maybe “The Throwest Back Night Ever.” On one hand, it was Throwback Jersey Night, as the Kings wore uniforms honoring their previous incarnation as the Royals (Rochester Royals, and then Cincinnati Kansas City Royals). More important to the outcome of the game, if not the fate of the franchise itself, it also became Throwback Fan Night. Arco Arena was filled to the brim, just like in the old days, when lovin

Kings look much better but lose nail-biter to Clippers

For the first time in a long time Tyreke Evans looked like the player who won the Rookie of the Year award last season when he scored a season-high 32 points against the visiting Los Angeles Clippers on Monday night, including hitting three of his six three-point shots. The outcome of the game, however, was decided by a missed free throw from Evans that would have sent the game to overtime but instead gave the Clippers a 100-99 victory, sending the Sacramento Kings to their eighth consecutive loss. The Kings battled back from a 13-point deficit over the first three quarters to tie the score at 76 going into the fourth quarter, and the drama played out over the final two minutes, which in

Sacramento Kings Block Party

While the Sacramento Kings and their fans sit at home and observe the NBA Playoffs within the confines of their living room, there is something Kings Fans can look forward to while the teams remaining fight for the Larry O’Brien Trophy. What Kings Fans can look forward to, is the upcoming NBA Draft on June 24. Before the Sacramento Kings decide on who they will be selecting next month, they must first know which slot they will be picking from. Last year the Kings had the highest odds of winning the top overall pick, and having the opportunity to land Blake Griffin, who was touted as the top prospect coming out of college. But as you all know, the Kings did not win the lottery and ended u

Kings Win and Tyreke Impresses

The fourth overall pick in the 2009 NBA draft has more than met expectations. Simply stated, when Tyreke Evans is on the court, the Kings play inspired basketball. The 116-94 victory over the Los Angeles Clippers simply added to the list of highlights that support his bid for Rookie of the Year honors. Tyreke's 28 points led all scorers, his 7 assists were second only to the Clippers' Baron Davis, and his team-leading 63% shooting from the field was actually the best on either bench. Many fans worried that a win would end the Kings' chances of being part of the draft lottery. However, today's NBA standings reveal that Sacramento remains among the contenders. Scenes from the game tell the s

Kings streaking comes to an end

The last time the Sacramento Kings faced the Los Angeles Clippers, they won. That game was the last win the Kings had before the losing streak began. The Kings snapped a five-game losing streak at Arco and an eight-game losing streak overall. The Sacramento Kings (25-54) beat the Los Angeles Clippers (27-52), 116-94. In the last contest between these two teams, Beno Udrih recorded his first triple-double the game after Tyreke Evans went down with his concussion in Milwaukee. Udrih played well tonight, but he didn’t have to do nearly as much as the last time these teams met. The Kings got the lead early, having a 33-27 lead after the first quarter. Evans had 10 points in the first, and

Tyreke Tuesdays: Evans could return today

After sitting out five games, Sacramento Kings rookie guard Tyreke Evans could play today against the Indiana Pacers. After sustaining a concussion when the Milwaukee Bucks' Ersan Ilyasova inadvertently hit him with an elbow, he sat out for three games before practicing last Thursday in Boston. When Evans complained of a headache at practice, the team ruled him out for the next two games. The Kings (24-50) have not done well since Evans' injury, compiling a 1-4 record since then. After beating the Los Angeles Clippers in L.A., the Kings lost at home against the Memphis Grizzlies the next night. The team left for a five-game road trip and lost to a then seven-win New Jersey Nets team, th

Tyreke Tuesdays: Evans cools off before getting injured

Kings rookie guard Tyreke Evans was playing the best basketball of his rookie season, but his it took a bad turn during last Friday's game against the Milwaukee Bucks. Late in the fourth quarter, Evans was hit by Ersan Ilyasova while he was swinging his elbows. As a result, Evans sustained a slight concussion, a bruised jaw and two cracked teeth. A fractured jaw was feared to be the diagnosis, and it would have been a horrible end to his spectacular first season in the NBA. He'll miss at least a week, which includes games against the Los Angeles Clippers, Memphis Grizzlies, New Jersey Nets and possibly the Boston Celtics. In the last two games played until his injury, Evans chalked up 2

Mayo KO's Kings

While the NBA season quickly moves to an end, the Kings and power forward Carl Landry have to work out something. Despite a fourth-quarter collapse that led to a 102-85 loss Monday night to the Memphis Grizzlies, the Kings, for a few minutes, appeared to have a way to get the ball to Landry. Moreover, Landry, whom the Kings desperately would love to make their low-post threat, appeared ready to inherit the position. Landry, who scored a team-high 23 points on nine of 13 field-goal attempts, made the best of his offensive opportunities. And the Kings were hanging quite nicely with the Grizzlies (38-33), one of the NBA's more talented young squads. Ultimately, though, Sacramento (24-47

The team found out that it lost starting big man Jason Thompson to a back injury until mid-March. The Kings took an ent

Kings lock up Clippers

It's been the rare occasion when defense and sound ball handling have been staples of a Kings victory. Sunday night at Arco Arena was one of those rarities, as the Kings limited the Los Angeles Clippers to 37.3 percent field-goal shooting on the way to a 97-92 victory before a crowd of 13,071 fans. The 92 points by the Clippers (24-35) were a season low for a Kings opponent. The Kings (20-39) won their second straight game partially because they committed just nine turnovers. Only thrice this season have the Kings limited their turnovers to fewer than 10. They did so during Friday's win over the Utah Jazz as well as Sunday night. Two in a row might not be much for the league's up

Tyreke Tuesdays: Evans, Casspi have an all-star weekend

Sacramento Kings rookie guard Tyreke Evans led the Rookies team to its first win in eight years, beating the Sophomores 140-128 on Feb. 12. Evans earned the T-Mobile Rookie Challenge Most Valuable Player award, posting 26 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists and 5 steals. Although fans voted Evans as the MVP, he didn't want to keep it for himself. Evans shared the spotlight with San Antonio Spurs rookie big man DeJuan Blair, who finished with 22 points, a game-high 23 rebounds and 4 assists. "I think we did a good job of getting the ball and pushing it," Evans said after the game. "But DeJuan Blair set the tone. He got the points and he got the rebounds. I'm (going to) share this MVP with him
