Sacramento usually sees large crowds on Second Saturday. But Wednesday, it looked more like Dublin as thousands of green-clad Sacramentans attended block parties, drank green beer and celebrated everything even remotely Irish. Tyreke Tuesdays: Evans' best week yet

Without a doubt, this has been the best basketball Tyreke Evans has played in his rookie season for the Sacramento Kings The Kings’ 20-year-old guard has averaged 19 points, 8.75 rebounds, 7.75 assists and 0.75 steals per game since March 9.  Since then, the Kings have played the Portland Trail Blazers in Portland and home games against the Toronto Raptors, the Blazers and the Minnesota Timberwolves. In that span the team has a 2-2 record. Blazers pummel Kings 110-94

For a team that was on the second game of a back-to-back, the Portland Trail Blazers played like a fresh team. After beating the Toronto Raptors and a day of rest, it was the Sacramento Kings that were shut down. The Blazers defeated the Kings 110-94 in a game where turnovers made the difference. After achieving a triple-double the game before, Kings rookie guard Tyreke Evans had a double-double with 10 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists. Kings power forward Carl Landry had 18 points and 6 rebounds, while Francisco Garcia had 17 points off the bench. Reliving Evans' triple-double night

Wednesday night was Tyreke Evans' night at ARCO Arena. The Sacramento Kings rookie guard had limited-edition T-shirts and printouts of his face on sticks handed out on a night that was used to promote his rookie of the year campaign. His choice of music was played during warm-ups before the game. There was a special introduction, which included pyrotechnics and a banner rising in honor of his night, for him. An announced crowd of 13,412 was introduced to the rookie of the year chant, "R-O-Y." By the end of the game, RekeROY night was more than a success. It sealed the award for him. Mayor Johnson talks about Evans, RekeROY rally

Sacramento Mayor Kevin Johnson – a three-time NBA all-star point guard for the Phoenix Suns – shared his thoughts on Sacramento Kings Rookie of the Year candidate Tyreke Evans Tuesday morning at a press conference. Johnson officially endorsed Evans last week, and came before tonight’s rally to support Evans. "He's doing some amazing things," Johnson said about Evans' performance this season. "He's on pace to do something only three other (rookies) in the history of the NBA have done in the past – averaging 20 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists (per game)." Tyreke Tuesdays: Evans is still learning the game

With four games played in March, Sacramento Kings rookie guard Tyreke Evans is still producing, despite his team losing three of the last four games to playoff-bound teams. Evans put up 17.5 points, 4.75 rebounds, 5.75 assists and 1.75 steals per game since March 2. He had had a team-high 27 points, six rebounds, five assists and two steals against the Oklahoma City Thunder, a team that has the sixth-best record in the Western Conference.  The Thunder's defense tightened up late in the game, securing a 113-107 home win over the Kings. Tyreke Tuesdays: Late-game heroics highlight Evans' week

Finishing out the month of February, rookie guard Tyreke Evans led the new-look Sacramento Kings to two straight wins against the Utah Jazz and the Los Angeles Clippers. He averaged 24.7 points, 5.3 rebounds, 7.7 assists and 1.3 steals, leading the team to a 2-1 record for the week. Although he scored 28 points and 13 assists with only two turnovers, the Kings were embarrassed by the Detroit Pistons at home, losing 101-89. Although the Kings were down by as many as 30 points late in the third quarter, Evans scored 12 points in the fourth quarter to cut into the lead. The NBA's Trade Deadline has come and gone this week. Usually during this time, teams are usually trying to acquire big names that will slingshot them into contention for the Finals. Kings introduce new season ticket package

The Sacramento Kings organization unveiled its season ticket package for next season Tuesday. Kings Season Ticket Holders will pay less for 99 percent of lower bowl seats in the 2010-11 season. Ticket prices in the lower bowl will be reduced by six percent, while upper bowl prices will remain the same. "We believe we created one of the best season ticket value packages in the NBA," Kings co-owner Gavin Maloof said in a press release. "Our commitment to our fans has never been stronger." Prices for the lower bowl will range from $64-140, compared to $67.50-150 this season. NBA consultant presses council on Kamilos arena plan

A consultant for the National Basketball Association pressed the City Council earlier this week to back its proposal for a new arena in Sacramento. The NBA, developer Gerry Kamilos and the Maloofs are working together on the proposal, which is led by Kamilos. John Moag, a consultant for the National Basketball Association, expressed his preference for the NBA/Kamilos plan in a Feb. 9 letter sent to Mayor Kevin Johnson and City Council members. “We expect the City of Sacramento will be the lead agency on the convergence project with a major role being played by the state of California,” Moag wrote. “We urge you to make the review and consideration of the convergence plan a priority of th

Report: Casspi a participant in H.O.R.S.E. at All-Star weekend

Sacramento Kings rookie swingman Omri Casspi will be a participant in H.O.R.S.E., presented by Geico at the NBA 2010 All-Star Weekend in Dallas on Saturday, according to a report by J.E. Skeets of Yahoo! Sports. The event is this Saturday at 4 p.m. on TNT. The report also indicates that last year's H.O.R.S.E. champion, Oklahoma City Thunder small forward Kevin Durant, and Boston Celtics point guard Rajon Rondo will also compete for the title. Despite the fact that the Sacramento Kings (16-34) are slumping, its rookie guard, Tyreke Evans, has a bright weekend ahead of him during the 2010 NBA All-Star Weekend in Dallas, Texas. Evans, along with fellow rookie teammate Omri Casspi, will represent the Kings on the Rookies team in the T-Mobile Rookie Challenge & Youth Jam at the American Airlines Arena, home of the Dallas Mavericks. Arena task force begins reviewing proposals

Sacramento Mayor Kevin Johnson's arena task force will focus on giving all proposals a fair hearing over the next four weeks, an arena team leader said Thursday. Four task force subcommittees on finance, transportation, site evaluation, and business and community impact will collect more detailed information from the development teams that have pitched seven arena options. The subcommittees will also consider renovating Arco Arena, the current home of the Kings, and a previous proposal to build at Cal Expo, said Chris Lehane, co-chair of the Sacramento First Task Force. Kings' Garcia leads Haiti fundraising effort

Sacramento Kings forward Francisco Garcia, a native of the Dominican Republic, is leading an effort by Kings players to assist his neighboring country of Haiti by donating money on behalf of everyone in attendance at the Kings versus San Antonio Spurs game on Wednesday, Feb. 3 at ARCO Arena. “I’m deeply saddened by all the destruction in my neighboring country of Haiti, and my thoughts and prayers are with everyone affected by this tragedy,” Garcia said. “I’m hopeful our donation around the Spurs game will help make a positive difference in the lives of everyone in Haiti as they work toward recovery.” Garcia is donating $1 to the American Red Cross for everyone in attendance at the game,

Kings mid-season report card

The Kings, who won an NBA-low 17 games last year, began this season with nowhere to go but up. They've begun that process by improving their competitiveness and athleticism. It started with draft picks Tyreke Evans and Omri Casspi and trading for Jon Brockman. Each has played at a higher level than could have been anticipated. However, the Kings' 15-28 (.357) record is tied with Philadelphia and Detroit as the NBA's fourth-worst. There have been numerous losses in which  the team was positioned to win. Chamber Kicks Off 'Keep Arena In Natomas' Campaign

City councilman Ray Tretheway, District One, takes the podium Saturday at a press conference held by the Natomas Chamber of Commerce to launch its "Keep the Arena In Natomas" campaign. The Chamber has gone on record criticizing the NBA and Maloof family for endorsing a complex land swap proposal that would move the arena to the railyards downtoan and the state fairgrounds to Natomas. The Chamber backs a proposal to build a new sports and entertainment complex on 100-acres adjacent to the existing site. Natomas Chamber Campaigns To Keep Arena In Natomas

The Natomas Chamber of Commerce today criticized the NBA and Maloofs for backing an arena plan weeks before the Sacramento First task force is scheduled to make its recommendations to Mayor Kevin Johnson and the public. In a statment released today, chamber officials announced plans to launch a "Keep The Arena In Natomas" campaign during a press conference set for 11 a.m. Saturday at Five Star Way and Del Paso Road. Evans hits game winner, propels Kings to 102-100 victory

After blowing an 18-point lead and losing by seven points to the Golden State Warriors the previous night in Oakland, the Sacramento Kings made a comeback against the Denver Nuggets. In the last few moments, Nuggets guard Chauncey Billups tied the game with a three-point field goal but Kings rookie guard Tyreke Evans made the game-winning field goal with 0.7 seconds left.
