"My Spiritual Death" is a success at the Capital Stage

What better way for a creative personality to celebrate the evolution of her personal journey towards spiritual awakening than to write, direct and star in a one-woman comedy show?  “My Spiritual Death,” is the brain child of Katie Rubin, a talented and imaginative thespian who is a graduate of Amherst College with a BA in theatre and Dance and an MFA in Acting from the University of California, Davis. Good, good, good, good vibrations: Consummate cast overcomes overlong, disjointed script in Capital Stage's 'In the Next Room'

With a title like "The Room Next Door, or the vibrator play," audiences might well expect a jolt or two – and not of the AC variety the newfangled electric gadgets of the late-19th century were known to occasionally deliver. For those looking for a bit of shock and awe from J Street's "bold, intimate, live" theater, the current Capital Stage production of Sarah Ruhl's comedy does not disappoint. Though Ruhl's script goes for the gag switch a few too many times, and changes polarity with unsettling frequency, the uniformly strong cast led by Michael Stevenson, Elena Wright and Katie Rubin shine brightly and consistently. Award Winning Actor/Educator to Offer Classes

It doesn’t matter if you’re an actor with lots of experience, or a newbie just testing the waters, actress Katie Rubin has got you covered in her eight-week studio scene study class. Rubin’s class, which starts October 11th and runs through November 29th, is every Sunday from 10 am to 1 pm at California Stage, 1719 25th St (at R St.) in Midtown Sacramento. Rubin’s class uses Meisner and other acting techniques in that it will start with a group exercise and then students will present scenes. The cost is $200 for the entire session or $25 per class.
