Spring into Stories this Saturday

Sacramento's best storytellers will be entertaining at the very first Spring into Stories festival on Saturday, April 21. From 10am to 10pm, Carol's Books at 1913 Del Paso Boulevard will feature stories, music, poetry, dance, juggling, food and more. The all-day entertainment includes a Story Slam, a Liar's Contest, Kids' Place, Spoken Word, and cultural performances. A story concert begins at 7pm. All events are free, with a suggested donation of $5 during the reception and story concert. The program is “a must for the entire family” according to Angela James of Fenix Drum and Dance. Family Circus workshops

On Sunday morning at the University of California, Davis Mondavi Center, Kevin O’Connor, Slater Penney, Christine Germain and Emily Leap led two free workshops on rope climbing, juggling, building human pyramids and using the trapeze. Each 90-minute workshop accommodated 60 very lucky participants ranging from age 4 to adult. More than 300 people could not be accommodated. Kevin O’Connor, an MFA choreography candidate and graduate of the National Circus School of Montreal, was the event’s organizer. O’Connor invited three other trained professionals to lead the four simultaneous workshops sponsored by the new UC Davis Institute for Exploration in Theatre, Dance and Performance. The morn

Damento Juggling Festival

I'm not a juggler. Never even been to a juggling show until Saturday night when I attended the Damento Juggling Festival held at George Washington Carver School of Arts and Science Auditorium in Rancho Cordova. Even Mayor Robert McGarvey was there and had the honor of 'throwing' the first juggling thingee. (I really don't know juggling terms.) The show was packed with adults and kids. A couple huge air balls were being batted up and around the room before the show started. I had been wondering what in the heck Damento was supposed to mean. As I sat there I noticed the sign above the stage. It showed: "Damento • Davis / Sacramento Jugglers". All of a sudden my brain got it!        DAv

Tonight "Sacramento Has Talent" Winners Showcase

The Sacramento Entertainment Agency and Tommy T's Comedy Club have worked through 100 acts and over 3 months of shows to finally present the "Best" five acts as voted on by the audience. Final Preliminary is Here!

This coming Tuesday August 4th is the Final preliminary level show in our "Sacramento Has Talent" Competition. Held at the "New" Tommy T's Comedy Club (above the ole' Spaghetti Factory on Hwy 50 & Hazel) Tuesday at 7:30 (out early) and only a $5 cover. A whole lot of fun because the audience votes the talent through to the next level, some come out and vote! Ages 16 & over welcome for this special Local Talent Event. Talent Search, Thursday 8PM at Dante Club..Open to the Public!

Here is an opportunity to see and support local talent. Thursday June 11th at 8pm the Dante Club opens it's doors to over 20 acts of various styles and talent level. Anyone that signed up can get stage time and get a real idea of their talent and how crowds will recieve them. Everyone only gets 3 to 5 min., so the pace is fast and furious. There is never a dull moment when you are watching excited performers sharing their talents and trying to please an audience. Some are great, others are not; that is part of the fun.
