It’s not too late to come back for a second helping. If you missed the April premiere of Planet of the Vampire Women, the film is coming back to The Crest. Featuring some of the galaxy’s sexiest space pirates reminiscent of the hunks of Hollywood film of the 60's and 70's, the action packed sci/fi adventure film, has three evening shows slated for Memorial weekend, May 27 through 29. Stephanie Hyden, a Sacramento native plays a playful anime-like character named Astrid in “Planet of the Vampire Women,” which premiered at the Crest Theatre in April. In the movie, her superpowers allows her to change her outfit at the flip of her hip. She credits Amy Slockbower, one of the film producers a

It may sound cliche, but I love America. Not for what she is, or the thing she’s done, but for what she represents: the idea that we are born free, that every citizen is free to pursue their own path to happiness, and that in this land one is free to speak their mind, whether or not that opinion is popular. America is more than the earth between its borders. It is hope. Hope that shines like a beacon into the darkest corners of this world, calling to those who want more for their destiny than their homelands can give them. The best and the most determined to succeed from all over the planet come here to learn, to raise their children, and to hope for a better future. When the brave are c

Occasionally in life you meet someone who has developed such an incredible gift it makes you want to tell everyone else about that person. That is what happened when I ventured into the Sunrise Natural Foods store in Roseville with my girlfriend and she introduced me to a friend of hers that works there. His name is Alden Okie and he is the epitome of the kind of person people need to see and ask advice of when they enter a natural food health store. Alden, a very distinguished looking man in his 50's, is also a very humble and gentle man who probably never sees himself as a superman. But to the people who have come to know and trust his advice, he is a super man to them. I remember the
With all that pink, I am sure Arnold thought that he was going to look outside of the Capitol building and expect to see “girly men” raising a hissy fit. Not tonight! One t-shirt did read “Real Men Wear Pink” and they do to show support of loving family and friends who have had to fight the good fight against cancer. Tonight, over 200 breast cancer survivors and activists gathered on the West steps of the State Capitol to kick off the May 9th Komen Sacramento Race for the Cure®, and help build breast cancer awareness, as well as promote early detection. During this rally, the crowd participated in a dramatic countdown to light the entire Capitol a bright shade of pink. Sacramento’s four-y
Yesterday it rained in Sacramento. Yesterday I didn’t pay close enough attention to the weather forecast in Sacramento. Rather than parking near my office, I decided to park about a mile or so away and ride my skateboard in to work. It’s fun and gets me a little exercise. The ride in to work was quite pleasant. The ride back to my truck wasn’t so much, and the rain was not the worst part. I left my office around 5 PM, at which point a steady rain was falling. Skateboarding in the rain sucks. Getting wet sucks, having your wheels get super slippery sucks. That would’ve been plenty to spoil what’s usually an enjoyable ride. Not only did I have to endure getting soaked and trying not to fall
