Sacramento Police continued their search Wednesday for the suspect in a fatal shooting after the September Second Saturday Art Walk, while community leaders continued talks on possible solutions to the violence and problems plaguing the event. With the city still reeling in the wake of the killing, city officials will hold a public forum on the shooting on Sept. 25. Armed Robery at Headhunters Resturant Midday Tuesday an armed robery occured at Headhunters Resturant at 20th and K Streets in Midtown. According to an e-mail from Lt. Mike Bray with the Sacramento Police Department: "I just wanted to advise you of a robbery today that occurred at Headhunters today. A black male about 19 years old walked in and pointed a handgun at the bartender and stole cash from the register. Thankfully no one was injured. Our detectives will be following up on the case. Even before it began the evening of Tuesday, June 30, Michael Kennedy was sure Dinner for the Arts would be successful. As Kennedy, co-creator of Dinner for the Arts, sat in his own Kennedy Gallery waiting to walk over to Headhunters for the weekly event, he told the Sacramento Press, "This is going to be a hit!" His prediction turned out to be true. Headhunters on K, located at 20th and K Streets, was packed with about 50 artists, members of the arts community and arts supporters. It is becoming a weekly event that will give local arts organizations the opportunity to promote their productions or events and reach out to new audiences. The event strives to put the spotlight on local arts organizations and artists and to promote the arts in Sacramento. Sacramento entertainer Courtney Parks was the hostess for the evening, Performing were Courtney, ICUP Comedy Troupe, Hot Pot Street Team Belly Dancers and LaFras LeRoux. Although not quite as well known in Sacramento as her native home of Alaska where she performed the lead roles in many musical theatre productions and sang at political fundraisers and sports events, Courtney Parks’ reputation as an extremely talented vocalist is catching on quickly in Sacramento. Prior moving to Sacramento Courtney won Spokane Idol and sang live onstage with Beth Hart. Locally, Courtney has performed on Good Day Sacramento as Judy Garland in December of 2008. There was a strange combination of emotions in Headhunters Video Lounge and Grill around 10 a.m. when the California Supreme Court decided to uphold Proposition 8, the state constitutional amendment to ban same-sex marriages. Perhaps it was the nature of the initial announcement, which was shouted by an on scene KOVR 13 reporter while hearing the breaking news through a cellphone. Several people cried, but most didn't have time to react, because stations like KXTV 10, KOVR 13, and KTXL 40 were already on the scene videotaping and interviewing people about their initial reactions outside of Headhunters.
