Local groups present The Vagina Monologues

The first of two community productions of The Vagina Monologues played to a sold-out audience at Oak Park's Guild Theater on Monday evening. The second production will be performed at the Crest Theater on Saturday, April 14 at 7:00 PM. Presented by local nonprofits Northern California Association for Women Take Back the Night and V-Day Sacramento, The Vagina Monologues is a benefit production of playwright and activist Eve Ensler’s internationally-acclaimed play based on interviews with hundreds of women. Music Brings Awareness For Mustard Seed School

As bars and restaurants prepared for the swarm of people celebrating St. Patrick's Day, a local teacher and musician was preparing for something greater. Cary Farley, health teacher at Luther Burbank High School, played his second annual charity concert for Mustard Seed School on Saturday at the Guild Theater. Mustard Seed School was established in 1989 by Loaves & Fishes as a free private school for homeless children between 3 and 15. With an organization that strives to help youth stay educated while their family goes through transitions, Farley felt the need to organize a fundraiser for the school. It is a project of Northern California Association for Women Take Back the Night based in Sacramento (Sacramento WTBN). Guild Theater to host Found Footage Fest

Found Footage Fest, a screening featuring odd and obscure videos compiled by curators Nick Prueher and Joe Pickett, will be presenting its latest collection on Sunday at the Guild Theater in Oak Park. Rocky Horror comes to the Guild Theater

After seeing the movie version of “The Rocky Horror Show (RHS)” numerous times I thought I would be prepared for the musical version – I could not have been more wrong. The RHS is a musical where audience participation is not only encouraged it is requested; the theater even sells ‘goody’ bags for the audience to hurl at the cast (not available opening night).  Many in the audience called out catchphrases or insults – all in good fun. History of Oak Park told through new walking tour brochure

On Thursday, October 21st, the Center for Sacramento History (CSH) and California State University, Sacramento (CSUS) will unveil a new self-guided walking tour of Central Oak Park. The brochure highlights the community’s architectural and historical significance. The evening will include an address by the brochure’s author, Dr. Robin Datel, a professor in CSUS’ Geography Department. Cinema Insomnia brings horror, comedy to the Guild Saturday

Movies on a Big Screen will host the first live broadcast taping of “Cinema Insomnia” Saturday.
