The latest updates of the city’s 2030 general plan were outlined for City Council members Thursday, including enhancements to the green development code and efforts to reduce community-wide greenhouse gas emissions. Long Range Planning Manager Tom Pace told the council that updates to the green development code will provide more flexibility in development standards, making it easier to develop smaller urban infill lots. The city’s climate action plan, which was adopted in February, includes a number of ways the community can reach a greenhouse gas emissions target of 15 percent below 2005 levels by the year 2020, according to Pace. The City of Sacramento invites residents and those who work in the City to complete a web-based survey to provide community input on living and working here. The survey results will be used as part of the city's 2030 General Plan annual report and help capture the community's perspective on livability and quality of life in Sacramento. The Newton Booth Neighborhoods Association (NBNA) is honoring Mike McKeever, Executive Director of the Sacramento Area Council of Governments (SACOG), with the organization’s 2011 Growing Together Award for his role earlier this year as the volunteer mediator in a neighborhood development controversy. The NBNA represents the Poverty Ridge, Newton Booth, and Alhambra Triangle neighborhoods in Sacramento’s District 4. The poor economy is causing city departments to delay work on planning projects in several areas, including historic preservation and code enforcement. The planning projects being slowed by the economy are outlined in the city’s “general plan” for 2030. The general plan is used as a roadmap for city growth. In March, the City Council approved the 2030 general plan. Staffers from the Community Development Department presented a Nov. 10 report to the City Council on the general plan. It notes that city departments are having mixed results with implementing projects in the general plan. Projects that were completely funded are going well, according to the report. “Staff has reported progres
