My plan of the day included another road trip while the rain and wind were pummeling the area. At 12:16pm I found myself on a levee overlooking the Vic Fazio Yolo Wildlife Area. Interstate 80 is seen in the upper third of the photo above. Everything is submerged. This is the south side of the freeway. The north side is also filled with water.Looking east from the levee I saw more than these two power poles skirted by water. A trailer park along the way had water encroaching upon it. The photo above is the big w
Even though the sky was socked-in and gray there were some good sights from Discovery Park today. A narrow canal, under Natomas Park Drive, runs parallel to Garden Highway, emptying into the Sacramento River. Even though the Jibboom St Bridge hides I-5 in the background, tall vehicles cast reflections in the water (blue semi cab pulling a white trailer on left). Sacramento skyline against gray skies. A sea lion comes up for air as it trolls for fish in the converging waters of the Sacramento and American Rivers. A man rides his bicyle on a path under the bridge. A bird launches from shore as a man fishes along the Sacramento River along the Garden Highway. Now is apparently a good time for catching Steelhead, Rainbow Trout, White Sturgeon, Striped Bass and American Shad. The headwaters of the Sacramento River include numerous tributaries. Its three main forks stride down from alpine slopes gaining girth and grandeur as streams and creeks converge into it. At the Sacramento River Delta, the watershed empties 31 percent of California's total water runoff into the San Francisco Bay. In its 384 mile journey, the mighty Sacramento River feeds Lake Siskiyou, Lake Shasta, and the Keswick Reservoir. At Lake Shasta, it is joined by the McCloud River, the
It had been one of those mornings. The sky was an angry sort of grey and the rain pounded down on the roof, mercilessly. I'd had trouble sleeping the night before and my significant other had an early appointment at a government office. It doesn't matter which one, just that she was facing up to a couple of hours of dealing with bureaucrats who were trying to separate her from her money. With the little lady already on edge, I'd gone and absentmindedly wiped avocado on the kitchen hand towels that aren't really for wiping your hands on, you know the ones. To make matters worse, I then half-heartedly tossed the "decorative pillows" on the bed in a manner that could easily be (mis?)co
Jeff Pooler and Matthew Jones have just about done it all in the restaurant industry. They have a combined experience of over 35 years in the business and have held positions as everything from chefs to managers and owners. With enough experience to go at it alone, Pooler and Jones decided to combine their dining expertise and take it to the next level. In late April, the talented duo opened Sacramento’s newest waterfront dining locale, Pearl on the River. “I’ve always wanted to open my own restaurant and [experience] helps tremendously," Pooler said. "I love coming to work, and every day is fun for me." The pair met through the Paragary Restaurant Group several years back, but that doe
