More than 200 people have signed up to take part in the inaugural Sacramento Man Hunt, a spin on the classic game of tag that will span the Grid from Old Sacramento to Alhambra Boulevard at 10 p.m. Sept. 3. The game is simple: There will be runners and chasers. Runners get a seven-minute head-start and must remain on foot. Chasers can use any vehicle they want, and they must “catch” the runners by tagging them with two hands. “I’ve had a lot of interest in it,” said event coordinator Mike Flanagan, who has been publicizing it via Facebook. “I don’t really expect all of them to show up, but I expect a good-size crowd.” Runners must try to evade the chasers and make it to the Safeway stor

Community was the name of the game at the South Sacramento games on Saturday. Residents played a variety of games, all focused on building cooperation without competition. We made the games so that nobody’s a winner and nobody’s a loser,” volunteer Charles Chenauot said. The games included capture the flag, don’t spill the beans and Simon Says, but with a twist. Simon and Simone used the same concept as Simon Says, but without winners or losers. Instead, when Simon told a player she was out, she could join Simone’s game and keep playing. “We have a lot of community games where people can come together and play without having to be competitive,” volunteer Staphonya Cabrellin said.
Visitors to Cal Expo smell greasy food and fresh manure, which can mean one thing: The Sacramento County Fair is back. Fair manager T.J. Plew said that this year’s fair features some fun, new and exciting entertainment. “We have the safari theme and with that we’ve booked a camel show, an urban jungle bird show, an actual safari exhibit with some fun creatures from around the world, and a monkey show," she said. All the shows provide fairgoers with interesting animal facts and let them see unusual tricks. The camel show featured a demonstration on how to milk a camel. Observers learned that camels give milk for only 90 seconds at a time. Once it started flowing, the fun began. Children
There was a different world inside “KlickNation’s Hosted Meetup of Awesomeness,” held on Thursday night at 1015 20th Street. Gaming enthusiasts amassed in groups to discuss things like frame rates, metrics, RPGs, MAUs, and DAUs. When one attendee brought his iPad out of hiding, a group of three or four others swarmed around him and the discussion quickly turned from the specs of the iPad to the battle between the Kindle and books. Equipped with tech talk and hours of gaming experience, they were there to prove that the Sacramento game culture is growing. With about 30 people in attendance, the event featured talks by employees of KlickNation, a company that makes games for Facebook. Talks

Throughout the game, the stadium screen showed video messages from American soldiers stationed across the world, saying hello to their families and showing their support for the River Cats. Spirits were high as family and frien
For his friends he was a tenacious fighter known for his fairness, and remembered for his love of the games. Former A-1 Comics Store Manager, Joe Guardalibene passed away but his strong example of the importance of knowing right from wrong lives on. Many of the kids who played in his game tournaments, including the popular Magic games, discovered a role model who inspired them beyond the game board. No one would call Sacramento a party town, exactly, but Sacramentans determined to party hearty have found a number of intriguing ways to drink without appearing to just be getting drunk. You want proof? Well, besides getting the city to close down entire central city blocks, as deVere's Irish Pub did on St. Patrick's Day, or indulging in the holiday cheer pub crawl known as Santacon (in which every participant must show up in red and white Santa drag), or the traditional Thanksgiving Day Appetite Enhancement Ride, there is a new (to me) way to drink and play at the same time: Pub Golf. Pub Golf is a combination of treasure hunt and pub crawl, with a seriously tongue-in-cheek nod to the

“What goes around, comes around.” Not only are those catchy Justin Timberlake lyrics, but also a heavily ignored fact. Every day I discover that more and more people have resorted to neon colors and much, much bigger hair. Personally, I favor their style, even though others may shiver when they see people in a Rolling Stones shirt that hasn't been washed for 5 weeks and tight pants that look like they were knitted into their skin. What’s my opinion on why this whole trend is coming back? Well, apart from the excessive airing of Beavis and Butthead and Rock of Love, I believe Guitar Hero is what is making the world put on their stud belts and rock out to their favorite Def Leppard song. I
