The center is holding its annual fine print auction and fundraiser until May 7. “We currently have 160-plus items that have been donated by photographers from around the world,” said Michael Corlew, chairman for the auction committee.

"Can you believe this is Sacramento?" Saturday night, at Neo-Crocker 2010, I heard many variations on this theme, but the first time I heard it stands out. The awestruck reveler voicing the sentiment? None other than Sacramento Mayor Kevin Johnson. It was easy to understand his, and others’, disbelief. At first blush, Neo-Crocker certainly seemed to be a party more suited to New York or Los Angeles than our own fair hamlet, yet here it was, at Third and O, not on Fifth Avenue or Rodeo Drive. But this was better. It was like a New York party, but without the pretension. It was like an L.A. party, but without the disingenuousness. This was a party f
The Poetics of Music at Sea, a solo exhibition of new paintings by Jeff Felker, opens at the CSUS Union Gallery, 6000 J Street, Sacramento, on Mon, Oct 4, 2010 and will be on view through Nov 4, 2010. The public is invited to a reception on Thurs, Oct 14, 2010 from 6pm-8pm. For his first solo show at the Union Gallery, Jeff has created a series of new, original, paintings in oil on canvas and board. Reflecting Jeff's strong passions for literature, painting and music these works tie the three art forms together to create a string of individual narratives. When taken together, these paintings attempt to confront an often repressive environment. Inspired by the romanticized interpretations

The art scene continues to expand in Sacramento. I recently had a chance to view its newest gallery, the 429 Gallery located on J at 5th Street. One thing I immediately noticed that separates the 429 Gallery from the rest in Sacramento is its emphasis on Chinese art. The entire gallery is comprised of beautiful modern Chinese paintings. Situated in downtown's Chinatown, the building used to be the Bank of Hong Kong. "[This building] just begs for Chinese art," says Brent Hamilton, one of the gallery owners. "It begs for those colors and all the little novelties, and the way they dressed their paintings." Not only does the gallery express the changing faces of Chinese culture, it also pr

Have you ever attended a yoga class and looked around at the more skilled participants with their nimble bodies and perfect poses? Or maybe you are one of those yoga aficionados, starting your day doing the tree pose or the downward facing dog. The beauty of the body is truly revealed in the art of yoga. A glimpse in the mirror while doing a yoga pose is all the proof you need that body and mind coming together is truly art-worthy. The BOLD MARK Gallery has taken this concept on for their next exhibit, "Balanced Bodies, Centered Minds." During the months of December and January the gallery will feature both yoga sculpture and live yoga demonstrations. All of the artwork will draw from th
