A look at historic Old Florin Town

Only 10 miles from downtown is an area used to be known as the strawberry capital of the world: the Old Florin Town District, according to its locals. The ongoing revitalization efforts in the area shows acknowledgment of its historic past. “The goal is to make Old Florin Town a destination,” Sacramento County Department Transportation Senior Land Architect James Schubert said. Vehicle upside down in the ditch, driver unscathed

Sacramento, CA- 19 year old Sarmeet Singh is not only lucky to be alive today, he escaped his vehicle landing upside down in a drainage ditch without even a scratch. Friday morning Singh called 911 from his cell phone at 8:16 A.M. stating "I just flipped my car". Per Singh, he was exiting Highway 99 on the Florin Road West off ramp when his car slid off the road, under the fence and flipped over in the cement storm drain. Emergency crews at first were not able to locate the vehicle because it slid under the fence and out of view. The fencing had to be cut and opened up for crews to access the vehicle. WalMart Super Center opens in South Sacramento

A good crowd of South Sacramento customers made it out early this morning for the grand opening festivities at their new Florin Road Walmart Supercenter. The new Supercenter is located in the new Florin Town Center, which was recently developed after the old Florin Mall was torn down. Store Manager Jason Craig, flanked by his management team, delivered a message of gratitude to his family, coworkers and customers. "People Reaching Out" was given a $50,000 check at the grand opening, for their "Fresh Start Program." County Supervisor Jimmie Yee also made an appearance acknowledging Walmart and the staff for bringing 600 jobs to South Sacramento, "300 of which are new," said Yee. Walmar
