Light Up Midtown 2011

The Midtown Business Association is inviting businesses to light up Midtown by transforming their store windows into a winter wonderland this season with an opportunity to win a $1,000 advertising grant from the MBA. Rainbow Festival celebrates 25 years Labor Day weekend

Members of the gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender and intersex community will be able to show their pride with a Midtown block party filled with music, entertainment, divas, drag shows and drinking this Labor Day weekend. The Sacramento Rainbow Festival will feature events and entertainment Sept. 2 - 4 and will include performances by dance-pop musicians Crystal Waters and Wynter Gordon; an SF Diva Drag Show featuring Cassandra Cass; and performances by drag queen Tommi Rose the Disco Diva and singer-entertainer Jimmy James. Man on the Street: Where in Sacramento would you never want to take your parents?

We all have parents. But while many may love and appreciate their mothers and fathers, there are just some things not meant to be shared between parents and children. The Sacramento Press recently posed the question, “Where in Sacramento would you never want to take your parents,” to individuals at Westfield Downtown Plaza. Faces – A silver celebration 25 years in the making

Summer ends in rainbows

Sunday, the giant Midtown block party known as the Rainbow Festival, came to its celebratory end. The three-day event held to raise money and awareness for local lesbian, bisexual, gay, transgender, queer, and intersex (LGBTQI) charities in Sacramento as well as celebrate community pride has raised over 500,000 since its inception according to the 2009 website. Vendors lined 20th and K Streets, offering everything from jewelry to T-shirts to rainbow-hued paraphernalia. Local LGBTQI institutions such as the Lavender Library and Sacramento's Gay Man's Chorus hosted booths, handing out fliers and pamphlets with information on events, clubs and volunteer opportunities.
