They already serve espresso ranked in quality the best two percent of the top ten percent of the world’s coffee, and now the Naked Lounge has also been dishing out a fair share of awesome talent, as well, in their recently opened Downtown Venue. With shows Thursday through Sunday, there’s a good chance you’re somewhere near this coffeeshop on one of those nights and there is no reason not to pay a minimal cover charge to hear one of these bands. It’s a place to have a beer and meet some interesting people, even if you only talk to the personable staff, some of whom you can also see performing on stage. Admittedly I’m here to promote my girlfriend’s show to be held on April 23, which is fa

Lately I've been feeling like there has been more entrepreneurial action than ever before. Maybe it's because Global Entrepreneurship Week is cohttp://www.sacramentopress.com/uploads/images/prod/e05185ac8270454b84ffc23ddb26ab15_t.jpgming up in less than 2 months -- and we're all just super excited about it; or maybe it is because we slowly see Sacramento really shining to become a more entrepreneurial city! In the last few years the growth of Sacramento has been outrageous! We, the community of Sacramento, are all just excited to be apart of it as well as a manufacture of that growth. An entrepreneur's best friend comes in all sorts of ways that looks to the usual person like a terrible
The fifth annual Mustard Seed Spin was held yesterday on the American River Trail with guest speaker Mayor Kevin Johnson showing his support for the need to take care of our children and keep what safety nets we do have in place from disappearing. The fundraiser benefited Mustard Seed School for homeless children of all ages. The ride featured area kids riding for their less fortunate counter parts and showing grit riding in temperatures well into the nineties. The goodwill and the social responsibility on display was breathtaking not to mention the smiles on the young riders determined faces. Mayor Johnson reminded us we all needed to step up and pitch in the best we can during
High energy and fun brought Old Sacramento to life at the Second Annual Sacramento World Music and Dance Festival. The two-day festival kicked off Saturday at the Benvenuti Performing Arts Center, which featured Angentine tango champions Miriam and Leonardo. Festivities continued Sunday in Old Sacramento. Despite the sweltering Sacramento heat, close to 5,000 attendees managed to stay cool under the shade of large tents and trees, and with the aid of popsicles and cold drinks sold by s

Aaron Young can't stop writing new songs. "I'm sort of plagued with it," he said. "I write every day, no matter what I'm doing." It's part of a work ethic that came from growing up on a pecan orchard in Mississippi. "I don't know if you've picked pecans to make some money, but you need a lot of them to make a pound, so you're out there a long time," he explained. "It taught me how to stay disciplined at something [and] develop patience." It's Young's patience and discipline that helped him through rough times, like being dropped from a record label and being homeless in San Francisco. This Friday night, the currently West Sacramento-native soul singer will bring his uplifting lyrics a
