Dodgeball and volleyball, that is. And for a good cause! Metro EDGE , Sacramento’s leading network of 40-and-under young professionals, is excited to announce its second annual “A Day on the EDGE” fundraiser. The event will feature two dodgeball and volleyball tournaments complete with great music, food, and drinks – all to benefit Junior Achievement of Sacramento. Metro EDGE, a program of the Sacramento Metro Chamber, identifies and supports a local nonprofit organization through volunteerism and philanthropic giving every year. For 2011, the group has chosen to support Junior Achievement of Sacramento, an educational organization that teaches financial literacy, entrepreneurship, wo
For many of us, winter spells hibernation. A lot of staying under the covers, accompanied by wine and movies. Sure we get some stretching in while reaching for the snooze button, or maybe a little cardio jumping over that puddle. Most of us enjoy doing a little activity each day, but, unfortunately, will be faced with rain clouds, brisk winds and short days during the next couple of months. Strolling the park outdoors, walking to the store, or even walking to work, aren’t ideal options in the freezing temperatures and wet streets. One solution to the winter funk can be found right here in Sacramento, with XOSO Co-Ed Sport and Social League – a league that includes outdoor and indoor kic
With 151,000 square feet of floor space, self-shading sky lights, recycled sunflower seed walls, and a host of Big Ass Fans, Sacramento State's new recreation center is sure to be the main attraction when the fall semester begins. The name of the building is the WELL. It's an acronym for: wellness, education, leisure, lifestyle. Inspiration for the name came from the perspective that the university didn't want just an athletic center, but a place that encouraged wellness in all aspects of a student's life. The WELL will house a primary and urgent care clinic, pharmacy, psychological services and laboratory services in addition to four basketball courts, four racquetball courts, an indoor
Last night something happened that no one thought possible. Ok, maybe a couple of people thought there was a chance. While not as long lasting as the Curse of the Billy Goat or the Curse of the Bambino, the Curse of Giovanni Crotti was starting to cause nightmares. Giovanni Crotti has been playing adult league dodgeball longer than most in Sacramento, having participated in leagues in Portland, Oregon prior to XOSO's beginning in Sacramento. As XOSO has grown from 50 dodgeballers to hundreds, Giovanni has maintained his hold as one of the top players in the league, yet a championship title remained illusive. Giovanni was rivaling Jim Kelly with a streak of playing in five championship
Sacramento, CA - Last night featured some epic showdowns to decide the Winter 2010 Wednesday night dodgeball champion. From the start of the season, Money Shot and DUI almost seemed destined to meet in the championship round. In the end, that's what happened. The night began with DUI squaring up against More Balls than Brains, one of the best #8 seeds XOSO has had to date. The first few games traded off, with DUI taking a 2-1 edge. Then, with each game coming down to a couple players, DUI found a way to win each one, prevailing 7-1 in the match. D3: The Mighty Drunks faced off against Beans and Rice, and took a commanding lead before relaxing, saving their arms for the #1 seed, DUI. Mon
A second consecutive perefect season slipped through Purple Reign's fingers in their second to last game of the season. The defending champion's seventeen game winning streak was snapped on October 28, falling 4-3 to Midtown Division champions, Beans and White Rice. These strong and well tested teams join undefeated top seed and Old Sacramento Division champions, Out Like a Fat Kid as the favorites entering tonight's season ending tournament. Out Like A Fat Kid's only loss in their last seventeen games came in the Semi-Finals of the summer dodgeball season, losing in overtime to Balls Deep in a hard fought game. The Fat Kids' perfect season leaves some questioning how prepared they enter
Megatron's Jock Strap finished off a perfect season on Wednesday night, the second perfect season in XOSO history. Despite being short handed all night, MJS defeated Beans and Rice in the opening round, in a harrowing victory that took the favorites to the bring of elimination in overtime before they were able to finish strong and secure the victory. In the second round MJS had an easier time with Ball Sac who had dispatched Team America in their opening round match. On the other side of the bracket, top seeded Out Like a Fat Kid cruised past Your Mom in the first round before running into division rivals, Balls Deep. In the hardest fought game this dodgeballer (and Fat Kid) has ever play
Do you miss the days of elementary school where recess provided unlimited opportunities to play sports with classmates? Complain no longer, because thanks to Xoso (pronounced Zo-so), Sport and Social League, recess is back for Sacramentans 21 and over, or at least the games you associate with recess. Dodgeball, Ultimate Frisbee, Kickball and Indoor Kickball leagues are all available for anyone who wants to join. Starting in spring, Xoso will bring the very first Capture the Flag league to Sacramento. Nick Berruezo, who wanted to "bring people together through sports and cheap drinks," created Xoso with the help of Laura Fontana, who designed the logo and team jerseys. Xoso has only been
