The Rotary Club of Sacramento announced today that the 27th annual “Bids for Kids” charity event raised a record-setting $388,000 for this year’s recipient – the Powerhouse Science Center. Powerhouse Science Center Raises More than $233,000 in Saturday Telethon

Science center folks pursue $7m grant

Sacramento's Discovery Museum and its partners could use the community's help as they vie for $7 million in state grants to build the Powerhouse Science Center, supporters said Wednesday. Fundraisers working on behalf of the museum and Carson Development Co. are asking Sacramentans to write letters to California State Parks supporting an application for the single biggest chunk of public money being sought for the $50 million project. The city of Sacramento and PG&E are partnering on the project. Discover the Discovery Museum with your Kids

The Discovery Museum Science & Space Center is a great place to take the kids. The Center rotates exhibits about every six months. Each exhibit is designed to be an interactive experience for all ages. Featured are activities for different learning levels. Activities include hands-on stations with specimens or experiments. Sacramento Zoo hosts California Celebration

As part of its First Saturday series, the Sacramento Zoo hosted California Celebration. The event, included with zoo admission, featured animal showcases, cultural performances and the activity booths of various businesses and groups. Science center gets robotics lab

A robotics lab program for children is expected to be built for the Powerhouse Science Center by summer. AT&T, which will announce a $25,000 donation Tuesday, is joining Hewlett-Packard, Intel, Otto Construction and Sacramento City Councilmember Sandy Sheedy to create a portable lab that will be set up at the Discovery Museum. Sacramento took another step toward turning the historic Pacific Gas & Electric power station into a $50 million riverfront science and space museum Tuesday. The Sacramento City Council authorized continued negotiations on a proposal by the Sacramento Museum of History, Science and Technology -- also known as the Discovery Museum -- and Carson Development Co. to build a museum expansion north of Old Sacramento.
