The Sacramento Kings hosted the streaking Dallas Mavericks, who were riding a 10-game winning streak going into Wednesday night's game. The Kings fought valiantly to erase an 11-point deficit, but Jason Terry and José Barea helped spark the Mavs to an 11th straight victory, beating the Kings 102-100. Terry stepped up off the bench in the wake of Dirk Nowitzki’s poor shooting night by scoring a game-high 20 points. Barea, who averages nine points per game from the bench, scored 15 of his 20 points in the fourth quarter to help hold off the Kings. “He’s one of the quickest players in the league,” Kings coach Paul Westphal said of Barea. “He can shoot. They set a lot of screens for him. He

There are three bright spots from the Kings' performance against Dallas on Saturday night. First, the Kings can score, and they can score a lot. No matter who the opponent is, there is no opportunity to relax, let alone have an off day. Tyreke Evans is another bright spot. In his quest to win NBA Rookie of the Year honors, he merely needs to finish out with statistics that keep pace with his season averages. He's doing that. Finally, there's the issue of lottery picks and the NBA draft. The loss against Dallas all but assures Sacramento of finishing the season inside the NBA's bottom five. Accomplishing these three things is something to celebrate now and build upon in the future. The co
Sacramento Kings rookie guard Tyreke Evans put on yet another stellar performance against the Dallas Mavericks at Arco Arena Saturday night. Unfortunately that was not enough to earn the Kings a win against the Mavericks losing 126-108. Evans, who scored 27 points, grabbed 8 rebounds and had 6 assists, is just inches away from becoming only the fourth rookie in NBA history to average 20 points, 5 rebounds and five assists. He has already secured the rebounds and assists averages and just needs to score 24 points during the final two games of the season to reach the points average mark. Oscar Robertson, Michael Jordan and LeBron James are the other three rookies who hold this record. Forw
The Dallas Mavericks began Saturday night's game with the ultimate mismatch in high-scoring 7-foot forward Dirk Nowitzki. Nowitzki scored what looked like an easy 39 points to befuddle the Kings during a 126-108 victory before a crowd of 15,247 at Arco Arena. The Kings rarely showed an ability to slow the Mavericks (53-27) offensively. Dallas' offense was orchestrated magnificently by maestro Jason Kidd, who earned his 105th career triple-double with 11 points, 10 rebounds and 13 assists. Dallas jumped out to a 17-point lead in the first quarter to seize control of the game. Only briefly during the second quarter did the Kings show any sign of being able to compete. Sacramento (25-55)

With four games played in March, Sacramento Kings rookie guard Tyreke Evans is still producing, despite his team losing three of the last four games to playoff-bound teams. He had had a team-high 27 points, six rebounds, five assists and two steals against the Oklahoma City Thunder, a team that has the sixth-best record in the Western Conference. The next night, the Kings were in Houston to play the Rocket

He averaged 24.7 points, 5.3 rebounds, 7.7 assists and 1.3 steals, leading the team to a 2-1 record for the week. Although he scored 28 points and 13 assists with only two turnovers, the Kings were embarrassed by the Detroit Pistons at home, losing 101-89. Although the Kings were down by as many as 30 points late in the third quarter, Evans scored 12 points in the fourth quarter to cut into the lead. The team found out that it lost starting big man Jason Thompson to a back injury until mid-March. The Kings took an ent
Sacramento Kings rookie guard Tyreke Evans led the Rookies team to its first win in eight years, beating the Sophomores 140-128 on Feb. 12. Evans earned the T-Mobile Rookie Challenge Most Valuable Player award, posting 26 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists and 5 steals. Although fans voted Evans as the MVP, he didn't want to keep it for himself. Evans shared the spotlight with San Antonio Spurs rookie big man DeJuan Blair, who finished with 22 points, a game-high 23 rebounds and 4 assists. "I think we did a good job of getting the ball and pushing it," Evans said after the game. "But DeJuan Blair set the tone. He got the points and he got the rebounds. I'm (going to) share this MVP with him
In basketball and in life, we can be our own worst enemies. Then when other factors make matters worse, things are all bad. That was the scenario Saturday night for the Sacramento Kings, who suffered a 99-91 loss to the visiting Dallas Mavericks before an announced crowd of 14,294 at Arco Arena. Sacramento lost Friday night 109-108 in Los Angeles to the Lakers while the Mavericks were in Sacramento resting and watching the game on television. Had Sacramento been able to ride the 20-point first half lead to a victory, it wouldn't have experienced an unquestionable emotional letdown which carried over into the game with the Mavericks. Saturday night, the Kings also welcomed back rookie Tyr
