Friday Concerts in the Park: Middle Class Rut comes out on top

"Exhilarating, like running naked through a bee storm," said music magazine NME of Middle Class Rut, or MC Rut for short. The duo headlines Friday's Concert in the Park in which Lite Brite, Consider The Thief and Early States will also play (click links for MySpace pages). MC Rut's style has been compared to Jane's Addiction and Rage Against the Machine, but the duo evokes a simpler feel than the The White Stripes, a band with similar instrumentation. Even so, the two-piece packs a fury of sound that never lets up. They recently released an eight-song EP entitled 25 Years and completed a tour of the United Kingdom. Lite Brite is a rock and roll trio that exudes a punk attitude, but can

The above photos clearly illustrate what I witnessed yesterday at the duck pond.  Loaves and pieces of bread were left on benches, inside the pond, and all around the pond.  Empty plastic bags that once

Citizen Hotel Opens

If you saw some bright spotlights weaving through the downtown sky Thursday Feb. 26, the source was probably the Citizen Hotel, which is owned by Joie de Vivre Hotels. The 83-year-old building located at 926 J Street was filled with hundreds of formally-dressed partygoers from 5 to 8 p.m. Guests enjoyed appetizers prepared by Chef Michael Tuohy from the hotel's Grange Restaurant, while sipping from a champagne fountain and a martini luge. On other floors, guests enjoyed wine, chocolate and jazz. At 6:30 p.m, Kipp Blewett, the Developer of the Citizen gave opening remarks via monitor thanking the downtown area and Joie de Vivre, "which has a long history of revitalizing historic assets. T
