Sacramento Marches for Cesar Chavez

Saturday morning, Cesar Chavez Park came alive with 1,500 marchers participating in the 10th Annual Cesar Chavez March. Cesar Chavez Park marked the finishing point for the marchers, who initially began at Arteaga's Supermarket in West Sacramento. Al Rojas, first vice president of the California State Employees Association and executive board member for the Sacramento Labor Council for Latin American Advancement, said he believes the march had "a lot more enthusiasm, spiritually, compared to last year." What's Happening at the Capitol: March 27

What's Happening at the Capitol: March 27 10:00 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. The 10th annual Cesar Chavez March will start at Arteaga's Supermarket in West Sacramento and go to the Capitol. The sponsoring Labor Council for Latin American Advancement said the march represents a call for justice, jobs, education and immigration reform. Families are encouraged to attend and bring signs or banners.

Council race: Social justice activist challenges Tretheway

Efren Guttierrez wants to bring his focus on social justice to City Hall. The 54-year-old real estate broker and community activist is running for a seat on the Sacramento City Council. The Sacramento Press is interviewing City Council candidates in advance of the June election. Guttierrez is running in District 1, now represented by Ray Tretheway. The district includes North and South Natomas and Alkali Flat. Guttierrez has worked in real estate for 28 years and is co-owner of New West Realtors in Natomas.
